Compatibility of TrueImage versions for recovery

Thread solved

So I recently moved, and my backup setup was not unpacked, and of cource my OS drive decided to crash. I ended up having to reinstall the OS from scratch, but now I am going thorugh resetting up all my backups.

My main question is compatibility of versions of TrueImage from a backup and recovery perspective. I have had a perpetual license for True Image 2016, then 2018, with 3 computer license for both.

I am looking into upgrading to 2020, but I also have more PCs now, some more "critical" then others.

Is it possible to continue to use 2018 on my less critical PCs, and leverage 2020 on my more important ones?

Would the same rescue disk be able to restore backups from either version?

Thanks in advance

Ken, welcome to these public User Forums.

In terms of compatibility, ATI is only ever tested for backwards compatibility with no testing done for forward versions.

This means that ATI 2020 will work with your 2018 and 2016 created backup files but neither 2016 or 2018 will recognise or use the backups created by 2020.

ATI 2020 introduced a new Disk image format with .tibx files which only its rescue media can recover.

Personally, I would recommend keeping a copy of the rescue media for each of your ATI versions, even if only to keep in a cupboard.
