Can't backup physical or virtual machines. Failed to write backup to file error code 2 module 218
I have ABR10 installed on a windows 2008 server which is also the VMware vCenter server.
The product is fully licensed as well as the virtual edition. I am trying to backup the local machine and/or virtual machines.
I made a centralized vault which is a virtual tape library (on a hp d2d 4004i). I also made a simple backup task. I have installed the SnapAPISetup, removed the RSM database a couple of times. Rebooted a few times. Turned the windows firewall off and on. Disabled the SQL VSS writer service.
But everytime the backup starts, after about 30 - 40 seconds I get the error: Failed to write backup to file.
The task log gives the following message:
Task 'TEST-vglt-websrv-01 - Simple backup task' failed: 'Failed to run the backup and recovery engine.

I'm using the virtual product too, though not to a tape library. If it's VM's you're backing up, try rebooting the agent. I'm using ESX, so I reboot that ESX agent. Not sure what you're using and this post may not be helpful at all, but thought I would at least try to answer.

To resolve the issue could you please do the following?
1) Please reinstall Acronis Storage Node under user with domain administrator rights;
2) Re-add Acronis Storage Node to Acronis Management Server and see if the issue remains.

I am tryoing to make an image of a drive to copy it to a new machine. I am doing a backup (sector to sector). After 20 to 30 sec it bombs out with werror code 2 and error code502 and error code 33
I dont understand.
All I need is to make and image and clone it to another computer!

According the errors the most possible reasons are
1. connection to the target location glitch
2. snapapi drivers issue
In order to solve the problem we need to localize the exact cause. But before we proceed with the investigation, could you please specify whether you have tried Oleg's suggestion?
In case you tried it, and it made no difference, please proceed with the following steps:
- Install the updated SnapAPI drivers, which I will send you via Private message in a minute
These drivers are responsible for accessing the drive and for snapshot creation, so their update may help to solve the issue - In case you're backing to the USB drive, please follow these instructions to have the issue solved
If the issue remains, please gather
- Acronis Info from the problem machine
- Exact sequence of steps performed
- Target backup location
After that please contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

I removed the SnapAPI from the Add/Remove Programs and reinstalled from the SnapAPISetup.msi that was in the KB article. This seems have taken care of the issue the backup is running as I type. Thanks alot
