Only 1 backup from 4 scheduled backups at shutdown

Thread needs solution

I just upgraded from ATI 2016 to ATI 2020.

With ATI 2016 I had 4 jobs for backup on 2 different NAS-Disks, all scheduled with "Once a day only" and "System shutdown or restart".

This worked without any problems, after shutdown, I got 4 backups.

I imported in ATI 2020 these 4 backups with exact the same configuration. In "Advanced - Computer shutdown" no option is activated.

Now I get only one backup!!! Only if I start "Backup now", I will get the other backups.

If I schedeule "User logoff", I will get all 4 backups!

Ulrich, welcome to these public User Forums.

When you upgraded from ATI 2016 to 2020, did you uninstall 2016 first, as required by new version?

How did you import these 4 ATI 2016 backups to 2020?

Upgrading from old versions of Acronis True Image

If your current version of Acronis True Image is Acronis True Image 2018 or Acronis True Image 2019, the new version will simply update it; there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software. If your current version is older, we recommend that you remove the current version, first.

Thank you for your response!

First I will tell you about my configuration:

Desktop-Computer with W7 Ultimate, all current patches, all drives encrypted with bitlocker. One account as administrator, one normal user.(Please do not say: Update to W10!)

ATI 2016 was scheduled with 4 tasks, option "System shut down or restart". In "Advanced-Computer shutdown" Stop all ... enabled, shutdown... disabled. When I started shut down, all 4 tasks started, one after the other in a waiting line and after performing the last backup, the computer was shut down.

THESE SETTINGS WORKED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS IN ATI 2016 FOR THE LAST YEARS!

I deinstalled ATI 2016 before installing ATI 2020-22510 as recommended and imported the four backups with the same configuration.
If I start now shut down, I only get the first backup!
BUT: If I make only one change in the schedule: From "System shut down or restart" to "User logoff" I will get my desired 4 backups!

I deleted all backup tasks and created new ones - no change, same behaviour!

How is the interacting with the schedule "System shut down or restart" and "Advanced-Computer shutdown"? I disabled all options, because I find it is not logic to say there "shut down..." or "Stop all current operations...".
If I enable the options in "Advanced-Computer shutdown" for all tasks, I will get my waiting line and all tasks are performing after log off as desired and after the last backup, the computer will shut down.
If I enable only "Stop all current operations...", I will get no backups at shutdown. Disabled all options: Only one backup at shutdown, but all at logoff.
If I change now the schedule from "Logoff" to "System shutdown or reboot", I will only get now the first backup! And I got the information for the other backups: "The latest backup has been stopped by user" - and that is wrong, it has been stopped by ATI 2020!

Conclusion: Only the combination of scheduled "User logoff" and "Advanced-Computer shutdown" Stop all ... enabled, shutdown... enabled will bring the desired result of four backups and shutdown after the last backup. And this is not good, because the combination with scheduled "System shutdown..." is not working as desired but it worked in ATI 2016!

Ulrich, thank you for the additional information.  I have never used the option to perform any backup tasks 'at shutdown', mainly because I use a laptop and don't want to leave it connected to power even when it has shutdown.

Does it matter what type of backups are being performed here?  I suspect that is not relevant!

I will see if I can find time to do some testing and further suspect that just 2 tasks would show if the problem happens or not?

I just ran a test using ATI 2019... two small F/F backups. My results, when selecting the System shutdown or reboot event, are consistent with what Ulrich is seeing on ATI 2020 so the behaviour does not seem to be new this year.

I tried changing the event to User logoff, but neither backup ran. I suspect that may be related to the fact that my system has one user and I boot right to the desktop. And the restart is run from the desktop with the command
"C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -r -t 00"

One annoyance is that while the backup ran on shutdown, I would see the Windows "Restarting" blue screen for just a flash and then I'd get the Windows "Operations are in progress, please wait..." blue screen while the backup ran. It would be nice if the Acronis scheduler could put up its own message so it would be clear that it is an Acronis operation causing the delay.

Ulrich, I would recommend opening a support ticket with Acronis for this issue and reference this forum topic.

I did some testing on my own Win 10 system with ATI 2020 by modifying the schedule on two of my tasks to run 'On event' at system shutdown or restart.

I unchecked the Computer shutdown options and tested with different combinations, i.e. with shutdown when backup complete enabled and disabled, but on every test, only one backup task ran then the second task was 'terminated by user' instead of being queued / run next before shutdown or restart.

At a minimum Acronis needs to reinstate the behaviour you saw with ATI 2016 for running multiple tasks at shutdown or restart, or provide an option to set a queuing order for such tasks running on event, and not shutdown until all tasks have completed.

Steve, thank you for your testing, which has the same results like my configuration.

I am running 4 tasks: 2 are "Files and folders", 2 "Disks and partitions". These tasks are identical to the working tasks in ATI 2016.

I opened a support ticket and I am waiting for response!

Ulrich, please let us know the outcome for your support ticket, I am sure it will be of interest to many other users here in the forums.

Hallo, Steve!

Here is  the result of my support-ticket - it does not help any way!

Please check if you are using a latest build of Acronis True Image 2020, Please update the software to latest build:

I would appreciate if you could confirm that shared solution resolved the issue in your reply to this email.

If the issue still persists, collect the following for further investigation:

Feel free to get back to us if you have any other questions.

I deinstalled ATI 2020 und reinstalled ATI 2016.

I created my 4 tasks identical with these options:

Schedule: Once a day at computer shutdown or restart
Advanced/Computer shutdown: All options disabled

Surprise, surprise: I got my desired behaviour: 4 backup tasks, working in a waiting line after starting shutdown. After that, the computer was off!

Ulrich, sorry to read that the support ticket got the 'standard canned' response, but not really too surprised!

All I can suggest here, assuming that you are willing to continue with your support conversation, is that you collect the same information for ATI 2016 where this is working correctly, and then if willing, re-install ATI 2020 and repeat the data collection showing that it is not working correctly!

Also refer support to read this forum topic as this is an issue that is very easy to recreate and it would be reasonable to ask that Acronis support test this for themselves, as I did earlier myself and demonstrated that I hit the same issue using ATI 2020 build 22510.
