ATI 2020: Is the new tibx format manditory? Can I CHOOSE to use tib still?
I can't seem to find a definitive answer on this, sorry if the info is available somewhere and I just overlooked it.
So, I am still using ATI 2019 on 2 Windows 10 Pro PC's, and have backup schedules in place and working fine.
If I upgrade to ATI 2020, will it continue to use my existing backup schedules and convert them to the new tibx format or will it still use the tib format, since the backup schedules were created using ATI 2019.
Will I be presented with an option to choose which format?
If, at some point, I need to start with a "clean slate", so to speak, and need to start a whole new backup routine does ATI 2020 allow me to choose which file format I want to use, or will it automatically use the new tibx format?
My main reason for concern is a limitation I read about that states that the new tibx format does NOT allow a backup to be mounted to a drive letter in windows explorer. I don't use that particular feature often, but I DO need it to work when I need it.
Found that info here:
https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/updates/changes.html?p=41999
"Known issues and limitations of this version
Acronis True Image 2020 introduces a new technology for disk-level backup. The technology is still being improved, so you might encounter the following limitations:
TI-172340 The backup mounting option is not supported for the new backup format, *.tibx."
I have not yet upgraded to ATI 2020 for this particular reason, and if, going forward, there is no option for doing so, I may be stuck with ATI 2019 for quite some time.
Any advice greatly appreciated,
thank you.

Hey, thanks for the help :)
This is the part that most interests me:
"That said, you can still double-click on all .tib & .tibx files and these will open in Explorer and allow you to navigate the contents, use Copy & Paste etc. "
Sounds like I can still "see" what's inside a .tibx backup of a drive, and pick out individual items to restore, if I need to. Without the .tibx being mounted to a drive, I had no idea there was a way to navigate a backups contents.
I just tried double clicking on one of the .tib files in my current backup and it opens in another window and I am able to explore it's contents just fine.
All this time, I had no idea it was not necessary to mount a disk image in order to view it's contents.
Thanks again for the help

Don, that feature has always been present in all recent versions of ATI for as long as I can remember.
See KB 63240: Acronis True Image 2020: how to restore files from a backup (Windows) which has details of this.

I tried this and when I double-clock, I get nothing. Right click gives two options Open and Open in new window. Neither do anything.
Do you have an idea what I have setup wrong ?

Code Warrior, are you using the Microsoft File Explorer or some other similar tool? The Acronis shell integration to enable these options are only available in the integrated file explorer tool.
If you are using the MS explorer and this isn't working, then a Repair Install is recommended to correct the integration with the Windows shell.
See KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - for help with the repair.
