WinPE doesn't support tibx file type

Thread needs solution

I created a WinPE dvd, and when booting I couldn't restore from a .tibx as that file type is not supported.

Billy, sorry but this is not my own experience and having just used my own Windows PE rescue media a short time ago, both .tibx and .tib files were recognised and could be created via backups or restored.

There was an issue when ATI 2020 was undergoing Beta testing where it still defaulted to only showing .tib files unless the user clicked in the file type field and this then revealed .tibx as a further choice, but this was resolved when ATI 2020 was released generally and now displays both file types.

I created a WinPE dvd

Did you create it with ATI 2020?  Older versions don't know about .tibx files.

I have the same problem here. I start acronis from a boot medium (flash or DVD) but cannot select a .tibx that is on a DVD (acronis says auto-generated file). If the same tibx is on a USB storage device, there are no problems

Hello Everyone,

I believe this is because backups which use CD/DVD/Blu-ray, FTP, or Acronis Secure Zone as their destination are created in .tib format. Therefore, if you move .tibx archives manually to any of these destinations, the product refuses to recognize it.

Hello,

I start Acronis from a bootable medium (win) and cannot select the .tibx from a DVD (700mB split DL DVD) but the same file from an external hard drive works. The .Tibx is created with the same boot medium. Is that a feature?

Patrick, do you have a tibx file stored on a DVD disc here?  That appears to be the issue in that ATI does not expect to find such files on that type of media and therefore is not recognising them!

ok, for many customers the IT guideline requires that no rewritable media are allowed in the FAB (workstation has no direct connection to the internet / network). In the past this problem was solved by a finalized DVD. This was accepted by IT with the high security standard. OK that's a problem (for us).
Older Acronis versions accepted .tib from DVD, why was this changed?

Patrick, ATI 2020 / 2021 still accept .tib files stored on DVD but you would need to create these files directly to the DVD media, not to a disk drive if you want the file to be in .tib format when making a Disk backup.

From the User Guide link that Ekaterina posted earlier, it states:

Which backups retain TIB format

The following backups continue to use the TIB format:

  • File-level backups
  • Nonstop backups
  • Notarized backups
  • Backups which use CD/DVD/Blu-ray, FTP, or Acronis Secure Zone as their destination

See forum topic: How to create a Disk backup as .tib (not .tibx) which will create a new backup task using the older .tib format in the Windows ATI 2020 / 2021 GUI when writing to other destinations such as disk drives.

I have no way of creating the backup via the GUI, this is only possible via the boot medium. Is there a possibility in the future to create .tib in the boot medium or to use a .tibx from a DVD?

Patrick, the only way to create .tib when booting from a DVD would be to use an older ATI version prior to 2020, i.e. 2019 (which didn't use .tibx files). Acronis have not shown any indication of reversing their decision of moving to use .tibx which comes from their premium business product range of applications.
