Clone failed

Thread needs solution

Hi.  I'm trying to use Acronis for Crucial to clone a HDD onto a SSD.  I have done this in the past with the exact same machine and SSD without issue.  However this time I'm getting the same error in the logs each time I try to clone the disc.  Can someone point me in the right direction?  Thanks!

Aldous, welcome to these public User Forums.

Please see KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which applies to your OEM version of ATI from Crucial, which will also be an older version than the ATI 2020 version for this particular forum.

From your log information, you are cloning from a smaller HDD to a larger SSD given that the log is showing an increase in size for the various partitions.

Normally such a clone shouldn't give the format/resize errors as you would expect to have more than enough drive space, so to see this would suggest an issue either with your source HDD or else with the target SSD.

I would recommend checking for any diagnostic tools provided by the HDD maker and by Crucial for their SSD, and using these to do a full check on both drives.

Dedicated diagnostic utilities from the disk manufacturers take the longest time to complete the checks, but provide the most accurate methods of checking whether the disk is good or needs replacement:

 - Western Digital drives: Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows

 - Seagate disks: SeaTools for Windows

 - HGST disks: HGST Windows Drive Fitness Test (WinDFT)

 - Intel SSDs: Intel Solid State Drive Toolbox

 - Samsung drives: Samsung Magician

 - ADATA drives: ADATA SSD ToolBox

 - Kingston SSDs: Kingston SSD Toolbox, Kingston SSD Manager

 - Transcend SSDs: Transcend SSD Scope

 - Silicon Power disks: SP ToolBox

 - Toshiba disks: Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool Utility

 - Crucial disks: Crucial Storage Executive
