ACT 2020 Backup Validation Options Problem
I've recently upgraded to ACT 2020 (from ACT2016) and, so far, everything seems to be working well. However, I've noticed an odd anomaly with the available validation options concerning my backup. There are two validation options available; 'validate when backup is created' and 'validate backup regularly'. By default both of these options are checked but if I uncheck the 'validate backup regularly' option that selection is not saved i.e. if I exit ACT 2020 and then re-execute it, the 'validate backup regularly' option is checked again.
This caused me some concern as I hadn't noticed this before and suddenly found that ACT 2020 was performing validations that, as far as I knew , I hadn't requested.
Can anyone explain what is going wrong here, please? Surely, if I choose an option and save it, it should be persisted across backup sessions, shouldn't it?
If anyone can shed some light of this I would be very grateful.
Best regards,

Hi Ian,
many thanks for your reply. Sorry for not replying sooner, I wasn't notified that any one had replied to my question (Is it possible to configure my account to notify me by email when someone replies? If so, how?).
Anyway, when I upgraded to ATI2020 I did not uninstall ATI2016. The upgrade was a 'paid for' upgrade and everything seemed to go smoothly. The first time I ran ATI2020 it installed an upgrade, which also seemed to go smoothly. The installation's functionality, as far as I can tell, seems to be correct. However, the problem appears to be with the UI only. It doesn't seem to correctly store the 'validate backup regularly' option. Hence, my problem. This looks like a bug to me.
Best regards,
Robert

I've noticed something else about this problem. As I mentioned before, when run ATI 2020 the UI sets my validation option to 'validate backup regularly' even though I had previously unchecked that option. In addition to that, if I uncheck the 'validate backup regularly' option then run my backup, at the end of the backup operation the 'validate backup regularly' is checked again.
Personally, I think this is a bug. Can anyone else shed any light on it?
Kind regards,
Robert

Robert, I have never had validation be automatically enabled for any backup task and haven't seen any reports of the same in the forums as far as I can remember!
I would recommend creating a new ATI 2020 backup task and checking to see if the same happens? If it does, then I would suggest working through the options given in KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - as this would suggest an issue either with the internal database or in the application.

This may be a case in which the option, once set and run, cannot be changed. Please let us know if that is the case.

Hi Steve & Enchantech,
many thanks for your replies. Sorry for not replying sooner but for some reason I don't receive any notification when someone replies to my enquiry (by the way do either of you know if it's possible to receive such notifications?).
I've tried creating a new backup and that doesn't seem to have the same problems. However, it was only a 'test' entry and I didn't actually run the backup but it did preserve the validation option I set between sessions i.e. I set the options, closed ATI 2020 and re-executed it. The validation options were unchanged.
I can' see why this should work for a new backup and not for one that I created before I upgraded to ATI 2020. It looks like a bug to me.
Kind regards,
Robert

Robert, forum notifications are fickle to say the least - I am only told about new topics being posted and haven't had any notices to tell me that users have replied to existing topics I have had a hand in! I just tend to have a browse in the forums each day and look for any that show as having unread / new posts.
Reference this particular issue with your migrated task from an earlier version of ATI, the only real options here would be to recreate that as a new ATI 2020 task, or else to remove all the current settings for the problem task by using the Delete option but leaving the backup files in situ. Then use the option to 'Add existing file' selecting the most recent backup file. You will need to click on 'Reconfigure' for that added back task, but it will continue the backup type for the existing files and should lose this annoying issue about validation.

Hi Steve,
many thanks for your reply. Again, sorry for the delay I replying - I've only just been notified. Regarding the problem, I reported it to 'Support' and have received a support case number. I've sent them a load of system info files that they asked for. I'm waiting on them now but haven't heard anything from them so far.
I haven't tried your fix but I do think that the problem should be fixed properly in case it turns out to be a 'tip of the iceberg' type of thing. I'm surprised that it hasn't been fixed yet, it looked to me to be a problem fairly easily fixed.
Kind regards,
Robert

Robert,
I think the behavior is expected. Steve's suggestion is a possible way to get around the issue as it could/should allow you to change the validation options for the task from what it was set at originally.
This could well be an oversight by Acronis developers with how validation options are handled in 2020 when importing backups from previous versions. If so then it should be addressed.

Hi Enchantech,
many thanks for your reply. I'm not sure what you mean when you say 'I think the behavior is expected'. As you also say, the problem could well be an oversight by Acronis developers, which would make it a bug. I'm hoping that my support case will get it fixed properly as I'm sure Acronis wouldn't want to think that their software contains known bugs. Anyway, here's hoping.
Kind regards,
Robert
