full drive? what to delete?

Thread needs solution

I am a pretty new user of True Image 2010 Home for backup on a Maxtor USB drive on my tablet on Windows XP. Suddenly it is saying at startup that my e: drive is full and Full Time Backup is suspended. If I hover over the Task Bar icon, it says Nonstop Backup Is Paused.
I looked at My Computer > e: drive and see that it is called New Volume and I see this list of files and folders:
0a262eb75f8c4f4e1b82fd
2f734e37949e396adbe6ec7de3caee55
b3831fd2439bb199f602618b
New C backup
WINDOWS
autorun.inf 1kb
mxoicon.ico 5kb
Can I delete any of these to make room and then refresh/re-backup so I am backed up?
Also, when I start the True Image, I get a pop up saying a new version is available (2011?). Is this a free upgrade and should I do it?

There has just been an update (the last one ever!) to 2010, build 7154, so it would be worthwhile downloading the update. If you want control over the install, don't allow your current version to update, but go to your account and download the installer file. This will let you decide when to install it.

As for your drive filling up, the first question is has it actually filled up? In other words is TIH correct when it says you have run out of space? Note you need at least 2GB of space for NSB to consider you to have enough room.

I would delete any files via the Timeline Explorer under TIH - deleting the files manually will probably cause problems down the track.

As a note, you've managed to slide this into the corporate part of the forum, if you edit your post, the drop down box to the top left will allow you to transfer it to the TIH forum, where more people will see the post and hopefully respond.

You use version 2011, not 2010, and its latest build is 6597 - http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/updates/ , http://forum.acronis.com/forum/16861 . Autoupdate checks only for newer build of the existing version, not for newer version.

Colin. Thanks for jumping in to help me deal with this. Can I please ask you to talk "down" to me, as I don't know lots of this stuff. I'm sorry to ask you to do this but it will help me a lot and I won't be insulted at all. I really just need the full details and maybe I can do it and learn for the future!
I'm not sure how to deal with the update or the full drive. I don't even know what TIH is or what that stands for.
I'd like to try your suggestion on moving the post after I post this Reply. But I look at the top left of this screen and I don't see anything about which forum it is is or moving it. I guess I need help on that too. I feel so silly. Thanks for your help.

Jeff,

Either you discovered the drop down box or Acronis have moved it, as the thread is now in the True Image Home (TIH) forum.

Whether you have TIH 2010 or 2011 where it notifies you of a newer version you will have an option to ignore it or download the update, choose ignore. Then log into your Acronis account, click on Updates select from your list of installed Acronis software whichever version of TIH you have and from there download the update.

This gives you the advantage that the installer file will be saved on your PC, and you can decide when to install it.

I would sort your space problem out first.

Could you post a screen shot of your E:\ drive as the Non Stop Backup (NSB) files should be in a folder called Timeline and will be in 1GB chunks. If this is not the case does the Timeline Explorer show files for recovery? Are you sure you've been making NSB images?

I had a tech friend help me fix this mess. He was able to disable the drive electronically while still connected to my tablet pc and then he was able to delete all of the files on the drive. It was in "pause" as it said it was full. Yeah...right! My 60gb tablet filled up my 94gb MAXTOR USB drive that is only used for backing up.
Once he disabled the drive electronically while it is still hooked via USB, he was able to delete the 6 files or folders that showed up in My Computer on that drive. I had asked for help on this forum and got none that I could use. Colin tried to help me and I really appreciate his attempt. But I am no techy and need to be spoken down to my level of understanding. I had even listed as much detail as possible about the files I saw listed on the drive. Not to prove anything but just to help sort out this mess.
So my friend and I deleted those files and ran a new Full Time backup of all My Docs.
Now if I go to My Computer and hover over E: it says Free Space: 85.5gb Total Size 93.3gb.
If I try to right-click on the E: drive so I can choose Properties, it locks up my pc. The mouse is swirling and never stops. Neither does this mess stop.
Maybe I should just go back to the software that came with my MAXTOR drive that allowed a user to restore any single file back to a specific date version (they were all listed by their revision dates) and not just restore the whole batch of files.
Colin...if I have anything on here that should not be on here, such as a serial #, please help me remove it. You had warned me about that but I can't find it.

Jeff,

The image you attached to your very first post - "true_image_version.jpg" has your serial number displayed.

Edit your post and at the bottom where it says File Attachments will be a tick box untick the one that is alongside the above named attachment and it will not be displayed in the forum. If you still have the original on your PC then you can right click on the file and select edit, this will invoke the Paint program on your PC and you can then ink over the serial number or parts of it. Save it and you can re-upload it in exactly the same manner as you did the first time.

I did ask if you could post some screen shots of the E:\ drive with the NSB files on it. The problem now, is there is no way of knowing which files have been deleted and if the lack of these has caused your new problem.

When these files were deleted did anyone switch off the NSB part of True Image?

It is possible that the TI database is still thinks parts of the old folder are in existence.

I would now consider stopping the NSB task. Re-install TIH choosing the repair option which should appear, this should fix any driver or registry entries that may at the moment be out of wack, reboot and then restart NSB and see if the freezing problem has gone.

Colin. I think that I figured out how to find it and delete it with your help. I think that I deleted it.
I had a tech friend help me and we deleted everything on my MAXTOR e: drive and started a fresh start. I only did the NonStop Backup this time, so maybe it won't fill up my MAXTOR. The MAXTOR is 93.3gb and is only backing up My Docs which is only about 7gb.
He had to disable the drive electronically while it was still hooked up so that those files could be deleted. But it is done now.
