Comparing True Image to Cyber Backup?

Thread needs solution

Hi all.  I'm trying to get the reasons behind the massive cost differences between for example a 500 GB cloud storage allocation under True Image and the same under Cyber Backup (or Backup 12.5, whatever it's currently called).

I do understand that one is consumer and the other is business, however to small businesses, this distinction is completely irrelevant if the product at the consumer level does the same task, or at least the same core tasks.  I've been in IT a long time with 12 years as a reseller, so I know the standard generic arguments for consumer vs. business products.  However this time I don't think Acronis has really done a great job on the value proposition.  I've sold True Image with 500GB for $69 or $99 (I forget off-hand), but I just got a quote for a workstation license of Backup 12.5 with 500GB for something pushing $800+ (MSRP that is).  If one compares the features list of the storage itself, there's barely any difference.

To be fair, Acronis has a ways to go in terms of product maturity and positioning, and they're very aggressively ramping those things up, but I think they're already making the mistake of assuming that because you stick the "business" label to a product that automatically allows a 400% (or in this case, 800%) cost increase.

All a small business sees is:

True Image does full system image backups to 500GB cloud storage for say $99.

Cyber Backup does full system image backups to 500 GB cloud storage, for $800, with no discernible difference in their speed, availability, etc.

And on top of that, having worked with both products myself starting last year, I actually find True Image BETTER in terms of setting up the bootable restore media.  To top if off, it comes with utilities for cloning a drive and such - last time I dug around in Cyber Backup, it had none of that stuff.  So essentially a less functional product at 8x the cost is all I was able to conclude when I compared these two last year.

Obviously I have to be missing something, and please don't say the notary service is the difference lol ;)

Hello Colin!

We have recently requested a qutote for advanced licences with 1 year support through a reseller at 85 EUR / Machine, which sounds about right (https://www.acronis.com/en-us/business/backup/cloud-vm/licensing-options/)

We have on premises deployment though, so it's clearly the cloud storage that pushes the price to ~800$ range. You can confirm here: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/cloud/storage/purchasing/

There's nothing preventing you to use TrueImage in an organization though. See:

"Use of Acronis True Image and other Personal products is not restricted to individuals, these products may be used by organizations as well. However, we recommend to use Acronis Business products as they are better tailored to business environment needs. from:https://kb.acronis.com/content/11997

I don't know what feature comparison you've been looking at, but I see quite a few differences even between the standard licence and true image. see: https://kb.acronis.com/content/63298

Hello Colin,

thank you for posting on Acronis forums!

Peter has already answered your questions. However, I should add the following:

I've sold True Image with 500GB for $69 or $99 (I forget off-hand), but I just got a quote for a workstation license of Backup 12.5 with 500GB for something pushing $800+

Please pay attention to different platforms the software designed for home vs. server. This also influences the price:

- Acronis True Image is designed for home usage and home OSes.

- Acronis Backup (Advanced) is designed for small to medium and large business environment and it supports server OSes, virtual environment and critical business applications
