Msi B450 GAMING PLUS MAX + Raid integration

Thread needs solution

Hello..

I have build a Acronis pe with integrate Raid drivers for my MSI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX.

My problem, is that raid disk will not Bee seen by the acronis boot cd. Anyone bright heads out there with any Solutions? Or anyone with a boot cd already working with this new msi b450 motherboard?

Just thinking out aloud her - the MSI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX is the motherboard; supports third generation Ryzen CPUs. How is the RAID structured, does it use SATA disks or M.2 NVMe drives? Is it RAID 1, 0 or 10? I only have a first generation Ryzen motherboard with an X370 chipset, and have never used RAID arrary.

I am assuming that the PC boots from the RAID array, is this correct?

I have a (very dim) recollection that there was an issue with getting RAID support for AMD Ryzen based systems to work in the recovery media. Mustang will no doubt be able to update us on that.

Out of interest, why are you using a CD rather than USB flash drive for the recovery media. A USB 3.x flash drive will been far more sepsonsive than a CD. There is a remote possibility that using the CD rather than a flash drive could be part of the problem.

Also, please explain how you are creating the recovery media (are you using the MVP tool or the native Acronis tool? If the latter, which I suspect you are, is it Windows PE, WIndows RE or Linux. It looks like you are using "pe", which I assume is short for Windows PE.

Hello..

I litle more info.. My system boots from a non raid NVME Samsung 950Pro.

My raid is sata, raid 1.

Ihave tried the USB , but same result. I have also tried the F11(MBR Drives)

I have tried the the MVP tool and also the Acronis tool. No mather what i do, my acronis boot usb\cd will not see my raid disk. I have added the RAID Drivers but same result.

On my older MSI Motherboard this was not an issue. I backed up my system drive to one of the raid partition.

You may not have added all the drivers you need. I downloaded them from the MSI website. There are six drivers you need to add. Build again using the MVP Tool and put the WTx64 folder in the Drivers_Custom\x64 folder. Then select YES to the add custom drivers question. The MVP Tool will pick up all six needed drivers from the RAID_NVMe and RAID_SATA folders.

If you build using the Acronis media builder, you will need to use the Advanced option and select all six drivers individually.

Hello again..

I have tried this. As you see of picture 1, the 6 drivers are integrated.

Picture 2, shows the message when i boot from this new AcronisBoot USB created with Acronis Media Builder (Advanced function).

If i use EasyBDC, an add a boot entry to the new Acronis ISO. I got the message on picture 3. (I have always used this before, an did not have any issues at all).

I have used the Acronis Media Builder, advanced function.. I have also tried to do this with the MVP Tool, but same result.

As a test, i downloaded Macrium reflect. I created a boot USB from this software, and added the same drivers. This boot usb works as it should. I could now see my raid disk.

This is not a permanent solutions i think, because Acronis is my number one prefered software.

I hope this is something that could be fixed :)

Maybe the drivers you integrated are not the correct version for your system. This is only a guess but is the only thing I can think of. I need more information to help you.

1. What is your Windows system. Example, Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

2. What version of the Windows ADK do you have installed. Example, ADK 1903.

I don't want to get involved with Grub4DOS. I just want to know if the MVP Tool will boot and not see your RAID array with the 6 drivers added. The drivers used must be the correct drivers for the ADK not the drivers for your Windows system. Example, a Windows 7 system can have a Windows 10 ADK installed. In that case, the drivers added must be Windows 10 drivers.

I would suggest you use the MVP Tool and select the build from WinRE option. Then you know the drivers you add should be the same version used by your Windows system.

Okay.

My system is Windows 10 Pro latest build.

I will try to do this with MVP tool. And build it with WinRE Option.

Only one question before a do this : Is it mandatory that this is a Uefi system or is it okay with MBR system??

I will first do a clean installation with all drivers updated before i start MVP tool...

Hope to here from you before I do this clean install, så i know if it must be Uefi or not..

The MVP Tool will boot in UEFI and Legacy/MBR mode. Is your current Windows 10 system UEFI/GPT or Legacy/MBR?

Not sure if this is off the point or not; however if the boot device is an M.2 drive, then the system must use UEFI rather than legacy; also the boot disk must be GPT. Other drives can, of course be MBR.

Ian

Now i have install a fresh windows 10 pro x64.

System is upgraded with all drivers.

Acronis true image 2019 Installed.

MVP tool downloaded.

Running MVP tool from root c drive with admin right.

I choose WinRE

64BIT

NO Mapped drive.

But a breef second afther the Mapped drive section, a message : was not expexted her. Then the tool terminator.

There are not any error in the MVP tool log file..

Any ideas What this is?????

That is the point where the program is trying to mount WinRE.wim. It sounds like something is going wrong with the mount.

Is WinRE working on the system? Can build a USB recovery drive from Control Panel/Recovery? Also, open a command prompt as administrator and enter:

reagentc /info

Do you see that WinRE in Enabled? What is the path shown?

Try setting you system language to English.

Hello..

I have formated system drive. Installed Windows 10 pro UEFI now.. I have update all the drivers. I will try this tomorrow i gues 🤔.

Takes some time to build up my system with programs etc...

I will report back, as i have got time to test this...

Thanks so far 👍👍

Also, please remove the IRST folder from the Drivers_Custom\x64 folder. There may be a conflict between the Intel and AMD RAID drivers.

Now i have tried this.. Used MVP tool, choose Winre Option. Added the 6 drivers, but still no raid disk when i boot from this USB..

I Wonder if someone Else has succes with this MSI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX motherboard. 🤔🤔.. I Would love to have a working 2019 iso for my motherboard.. Acronis is the best backup tool ever 👍👍 Anyone 🤔🤔??

One question. Did you delete the Drivers_Custom\x64\IRST folder before building with the MVP Tool?

It really should work if you added the correct drivers. You can check Device Manager in your system for the RAID controller drivers and get the drivers extracted from your system. See this post for instructions. https://forum.acronis.com/forum/best-practices-data-protection/guide-add-drivers-winpe-recovery-media

Yes, i did delete the IRST folder..

I will try to extract the drivers from my system.

Comming back SOON 👍

I looked at the RAID drivers again from the MSI website. I think I see the problem. Your RAID is a SATA RAID 1. The drivers are for RAID_NVMe and RAID_SATA. Each has three drivers. The three drivers in each share the same name. You should not be adding all six drivers. You should only be adding the three SATA drivers.

No i have done this as described. Edited boot. Wim. Included 3 Raid sata drivers. But i got this message booting from this new usb. Invalid extended prosessor state.. This must bee something with bios not allowing??? This is the same message i got when i create boot usb with acronis also an Included this drivers

I'm puzzled by your error message. I built a new USB drive including the 3 RAID_SATA drivers and was able to boot with no problem. I checked and found the rcraid service was running fine. I was also able to see my Intel RAID, so there is no conflict between the AMD and Intel IRST drivers.

Hmm.. Did you use MVP Tool, or the WindowsRe in acronis Builder??

Is it possible to share the boot-usb you have created?

I used the MVP Tool. Sorry, it's not possible to share the media.

The invalid extended processor state may have something to do with the Windows Fast Startup feature. Go to Power Options/Change what the power buttons do/Change setting that are currently unavailable and make sure the Turn on fast startup box is unchecked.

Don't give up, if the RAID works in Windows it will work in WinPE if the correct divers are included.

Hello again...

I have already turn of fast startup feature. Same resultat. My device manager have 6 drivers regarding Raid.. 3*Raid bottom device. 3*Raid storport. (storage kontroller).

I have tried different aproach create with MVP tool :

1: added the 3*Raid bottom. PC boots into usb, but No Raid disk appears.

2: added the 3*Raid storport. PC boots into usb, but No Raid disk appears.

3: added both the Raid bottom and Raid storport. PC starts to boot, but blue screen - Invalid extended prosessor state.

I have tried the Sata drivers from MSI and from AMD, which are the same. I have also exported the drivers from my system, same result.

I am a computer technican, but this one i can't realy figure out. 🤔🤔

In the meeantime i use a usb to backup..

I hope this could be fixed 👍👍

Try making a recovery disk using Macrium Reflect Free edition. In the media creation tool look at the Advanced/Drivers tab to see what drivers are being added. If it works, we should be able to figure out which drivers need to be added to the Acronis media.

I am cruying....

No i can't get it to work with Macrium reflect either... 🤣🤣

I have sent a request to MSI, regarding this strange behaviour... Maybe they now??

I have tried all possible setting in bios, but not raid disk appears.... There is a function in Ctrl-r, boot/int13.. But Ctrl-r is not working.. Only raidexpert in bios is possible.. I know Ctrl-r only work in legacy system, not uefi but tried that to...

No more ideas to test..

I'm sorry that didn't work.

You may find this interesting. https://community.amd.com/thread/245565 Someone else with the same problem.

It's Working 👌👌😆😆

The problem was wrong version adk file 😅😅

Noe the MVP tool work, and the raid disk is visible in backup mode 👍

Thanks for all the help..

I'm glad to hear you got it working!

This just goes to show why it is so difficult to help without access to the hardware.

Yes..

Since i am a computer technican, i know all about that :)

It is almost impossible without hardware access :)

Now it works, as it should but speed of backup of NVME disk to this SATA Raid1 disk is not impressing.

My old MSI card, was much faster.

Old backup, took about 8 min. New backup takes about 14 min. I wonder if could bee some other drivers that should be integrated as well.

I have only used , skip importing drivers, and imported raid drivers only. I would try the function , import drivers from existing system. I would test this later today as a test :)

New report..

Afther using the automatic importing of drivers in MVP Tool. Now the speed are exstreme..

Backup of NVME to SATA Raid1, 62,6GB in 6 min ???? Extreme fast, more then 10GB\minutt

Good to hear you had success with the system drivers.

There is another trick I use to increase speed in WinPE. Execute the following line from a command prompt in WinPE:

powercfg /s 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c

It may or may not help in your case.
