Application in use message

Thread solved

Greetings -

I'm getting an error message on one of my computers when attempting a backup:

"Please close the application that may be currently using the file (path/file.)"

No idea what app it might be referring to. I've rebooted both machines that are powered up in case there was a background process messing things up on one of them. No joy.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Rick, what type of backup are you performing when this error message is thrown?

Is this a Disks & Partitions backup, or of Files & Folders?  If the latter, then are you including any data for online services such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc?

Please use the MVP Log Viewer tool to review the ti_demon logs for your backup to see if any more informative messages are given in the logs.  Note: you may need to use the Log View: Regular to see all relevant message details.

Hi Steve -

Here we are again. <g> I'm doing a new set of backups, per our last conversation, using the system you use of Differentials, with a Full backup every 5 backups. These are disk/partition backups, not file/folder backups.

I'm afraid I don't know what I'm looking for in the log file, so I've attached it for your review. Looking forward to your reply. Thank you, Steve!

Hi Rick, thanks for the log where the pertinent entry (repeated multiple times) is:

25/04/2020 08:29:26:860 AM -05:00 12636 W01E50023: Error 0x1e50023: Please close the application that may currently use the file: \\PARKASARAID\Backups\2019\Gameman\My_partitions2020-04-04_full_b29_s1_v1.tib

So the issue here is that ATI cannot access the destination file on your \\PARKASARAID network location.

Can you try using the option to 'Open location' for this backup task which you will find in the task menu behind the caret (v) next to the task name.

Hi Steve -

Looking at the log, there were issues with the location and login info. It was looking in the wrong year folder (2019) instead of the new one I created since our last convo (2020.) In addition, it was looking for the Synology login info and not the PARKASRAID info. I changed the Synology login name and p/w, and that seems to be what ATI wanted to see as well.

All better now. Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it!

Rick
