True Image 2019 cleanup not working

Thread solved

I have backup scheme set to Incremental.

-Create full version after every 5 incremental versions

-Delete version chains older than 30 days

In my NAS drive, it is almost full because it's not deleting old backups, I am seeing most the backups dating back to when I started using this (April 2019).

In the windows file explorer for the NAS where it's backing up,  I see backup chains b1_s1_v1.tib, then skips to b8_s1_v1, b9 chain, then b10 and b11 chains.  (See attached word doc with screen shots)

So it looks like it was working to clean up between B1 and B8, but I'm not sure by B1 is still there and also why it's not deleting ones older than 30 days??

Any ideas?

Ted, welcome to these public User Forums.

From just looking at your listing of backup files, you have made changes to the backup scheme settings over the time this backup has been active.

Your B8 scheme only created 2 incremental files before creating the B9 full chain with 5 incremental files.

Making changes to the backup scheme can cause strange results at times due to resetting counts used for cleanup.

The presence of the B1 files suggests that the scheme originally was set to not delete the first backup but has been changed.

At this point I would recommend using the Task > Clean up versions tool that was introduced in ATI 2019, which is accessed by clicking on the caret (v) next to the task name in the ATI GUI to reveal the drop-down menu.  Then select the unwanted backup chains one at a time to delete them.

Personally, I do not use the cleanup option to 'Delete version chains older than X days' as this is more difficult to understand and use.  I use the alternative 'Store no more than X recent version chains' which will delete any older chains after the X+1 new chain is started successfully with a new Full backup file, so that only X chains remain.

Hi Steve, yes I did change the settings for the backup a couple times to try to figure out which was best for space wise.  I will use the clean up versions tool and then try change settings to "store no more than x recent version chains" and monitor, but sounds like that will work.  Thanks!
