failed to exclusively access backup during consolidation

My backup is always failing with the message "failed to exclusively access backup during consolidation", please see screenshot. Please help.Capture.JPG

Jacques, please download the MVP Log Viewer tool and check the full log file for your backup task to see if there are any other messages related to the error you are seeing?

Where is your backup being stored (destination drive)? 
How does this relate to the destinations shown in your screen shot?
The error message refers to H:\Entire PC ....  but the Destination for the backup task shows as F:\ which may be why you are seeing an issue here?

I suspect that you have either changed the destination for this task at some time, or the backup drive has been given a different drive letter?

I would recommend doing a Validation for your backup task and see what error messages are presented, taking care to check where any missing files are shown as being located, i.e. H: or F:

Attached is a screenshot of the log.
I'm attaching an external hard disk to my laptop and the drive of this disk is changing once in a while.

I changed the destination for this task to F: because the backup drive has been given a different drive letter.

How can I do a validation of my backup task?

Jacques, anytime that your drive letter changes will cause problems because of the information that Acronis holds in its internal database for task history.

I would recommend going into Windows Disk Management while you have your external disk drive connected and changing the drive letter to one from further down the alphabet, i.e. pick drive letter X: or similar, one that will not be given to other USB devices you may connect.

Next, in ATIH, use the option to 'Clone settings' and use this to make a copy of the current task, this will be given the same name but prefixed by (1) (which you can change later).

Remove or unschedule the original task so that it will no longer be run automatically but leave the backup image files on your backup drive.

Finally, edit the new cloned task, change the name as needed, and importantly, select a new destination folder on your external drive X: (or the letter you chose), then let this run according to your schedule etc.

Drive Y, a Passport drive, used to back up fine, now I get same error message.  Here's what I've tried.

I cloned old backups and tried to Y (not a sub folder), same results.

As I'm backing up NAS files, I tried some simple desktop files, same results.

I quick formated the Passport, removed all backup tasks, changed the drive assignment from Y to X, tried desktop files, same problem.

I see the desktop back up is on the X drive, I tried to validate, but get a message it can't find the version 2, I click ignore, it can't find version 1, in a loop.

Turned off Automatic Cleanup and backup is now successful with no errors. Turned it on, and same error, turned it off for now, but would prefer to have automatic cleanup keep destination uncluttered.

Hello Bill,

this error message usually indicates that some .TIB files were renamed, copied, moved or deleted outside of Acronis True Image program’s user interface. Have you cleared up disk space by deleting .TIBs in Windows Explorer? "Cannot find version" means the old paths to .TIBs, remembered by the program previously, point nowhere and the software is unable to access the files required to continue a backup set.

Bill, further to the comments from Ekaterina, I would recommend looking at KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - and following the steps to rebuild the internal database and if you still see an issue, do a repair install of your ATI 2015 application.
