How to edit tasks correctly?

Thread needs solution

TI Home 2009, Build 9769, German version, Windows XP.

I have a problem that should be simple, but I don't get it working:

Suppose I have a scheduled backup task XYZ, which creates incremental backups. It ran two times, so I have a full backup with file XYZ.tib, and an icremental backup with file XYZ2.tib. In the backup list of TI I see my backup XYZ which consists of the two files mentioned.

Now I want to edit the task to change some parameters (e.g. execution time). What I simply want is that I can change the parameters, save the task and the next time it is running its going on as if nothing happened. So what I expect is a third file XYZ3.tib, and this third file also mentioned under my Backup XYZ in TI - but that's the thing I didn't get up to now.

The problem seems to arise from the task planning page where I define the filename for my backup. There I can decide If I want to create a new backup or if I want to add to an existing backup. I suppose that this is what I want. So I choose backup name XYZ. The backup file I have to enter is prefilled with XYZ3.tib. I can't enter XYZ.tib here, because it complains that the file already exists.

Now, what happens when I save and run the task? Ok, I get a third file XYZ3.tib (as expected), but in the TI Backup list I get a backup XYZ3, which consists of incremental file XYZ3.tib. The original backup XYZ still consists of the two backups XYZ.tib and XYZ2.tib.

Any idea what I am doing wrong ?

Many thanks,

Thorsten

Hello Thorsten,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

In order to create additional incremental backup to an existing full backup you should edit an existing schedule task. You can do it in the following way. Click edit schedule task -> Backup method -> Choose “create a new full backup after…” set 2.

Now you will have 1 full backup and 2 incremental backup archives.
