One Touch Backup insists on backing up on Sunday
Hi,
I'm using the latest build 7046...the one touch backup schedule cannot be suppressed and it insists on doing a full backup every Sunday. Tried everything...but whenever I click any of the other options Aconis initially accepts them and then you click the one touch button on the desktop and it just defaults back to 8pm Sunday.
Running Acronis on a state of art Sony Z Series with Windows 7 and a solid state hard drive. The good news is that at least the disk recovery from an external hard drive works

Sorry to say but none of the above work...
Acronis One Click Backup operates at 20:00 on Sunday whatever you attempt to change in the settings - it always defaults back to this...
You can change the date for it to start to operate (push it into the future) and it will create a schedule under Tasks & Log for this new date - but then when you operate the One Click Backup again - there it is 20:00 on Sunday and forgets about the new date. Go back to Tasks & Logs, show all schedules and then delete them all - still no change. Tell One Click Bacup not to schedule anything - nope it still does it.
It almost like One Click Backup has a default setting and this over rides everything - and it doesn't show in Tasks & Logs...
Tried a fresh install of Windows 7 and then loaded the v7046 with nothing else on the computer...nope no difference. However at least I was then able to reload the image of the drive using the Acronis...
So at the moment Acronis performs a backup every Sunday at 20:00 and the only way I can stop it is to shut down the laptop at that moment

Hello Christopher,
Most likely the issue is caused by Acronis Scheduler module that is used to manage all tasks in Acronis True Image. To fix the problem, I may suggest you to delete all tasks and update this module to the latest build.
- Download the latest build of Acronis Scheduler;
- Run the downloaded file. It will automatically update the service;
- Reboot the machine;
- Recreate the scheduled tasks.
Please reply to this thread if the issue persists.
Thank you.

sorry to report, but the problem persists even after this
made a report to Acronis technical support - but they sure look busy at the moment...Chris

Klaus,
I believe there are some things you can do to improve your situation.
I understand that you recently installed build 7154. This is good but it did not cure your problem as it did not remove bad script entries.
I understand you have several tasks and they are all unscheduled task. Some tasks are attempting to running but none that you can identify. You will need to look at the Scripts folder. If XP Pro, here is the path to that file. If you are using Windows 7, you will need to search for it.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts\
If you do not mind these scripts being deleted and you recreating them when we are done, then jump to the header Fixes below, otherwise continue reading here.
In order to determine which one are valid and you want to keep. File dates might help you or looking at the log file may also help. The bottom line is that you must determine the script ID number for each of the scripts you want to keep. You will need to open each script using Notepad. Inside the file, you will find some task names,etc which should help you compile a list of valid Script ID numbers which will be needed below.
Once you have compiled your list of valid Script ID numbers, you may delete any unwanted scripts. Right click on the unwanted script and choose delete. Repeat the delete until you have removed all the scripts you want to delete. Then continue below.
Fixes:
As I see it, you need to first update your scheduler to one newer than 7154.
Download the new scheduler. After downloading, double click to install.
https://kb.acronis.com/sites/default/files/content/2008/10/1785/acronis…
After installation completed, continue below:
Download "schedmgr.exe" listed on next line
http://kb.acronis.com/download/file/fid/9139
What this program will do is to list the hidden tasks not visible to you before
.
After downloading the "schedmgr.exe" file, double click the file to start the program.
A command window will open and you will be a command prompt which looks like this
inst=yes start=yes loc task=0 >
Type "Get list" and press enter
inst=yes start=yes loc task=0 > Get List (press enter)
What will be displayed is the hidden contents of all the tasks some of which are attemtping to run.
You can delete all of the tasks by issuing the command "task zap"
inst=yes start=yes loc task=0 > Task Zap (press enter)
However,
If you do NOT wish to get rid of the entire group of tasks listed which may include some valid script id's, then use your list of valid scripts identified above and we will delete the unwanted individually as beginning here.
Type "Get list" and press enter (also perform this command even if you zapped the tasks to confirm all tasks have been deleted.)
inst=yes start=yes loc task=0 > Get List (press enter)
For example:
Match your list with those script ID's listed. Item 1-25 is not on your list to be retained so it can be deleted.
Example of 1-25:1-25 *TrueImageHomeNotify* /dummy /script: "34C346FB-A896-4A1A-B7DB-EF090DF2140F" /uuid: "34C346FB-A896-4A1A-B7DB-EF090DF2140F"
Type task 1-25 (press enter)
inst=yes start=yes loc task=0 > task 1-25 (press enter)
Task 1-25 selected.
inst=yes start=yes loc task=1-25 >
Confirm the task number returned is the correct number you wanted.
Type task delete (press enter)
inst=yes start=yes loc task=1-25 > Task delete (press enter)
Repeat the process again starting over with the
"get list"
task 1-XX or 2-XX (1-xx or 2-xx = task to be deleted)
task delete
and repeat the process over and over until all the unwanted script id's have been deleted.
After you have deleted all the unwanted tasks, then x out of the command window (or type exit at the command prompt)
Next, open TrueImage and look at any remaining tasks. If any tasks listed that you want to retain, edit each task and immediately click Save without making any changes.

For reference, this link provides an overview of the procedures completed above.

I cannot guarantee this will solve your issue but this procedure has solved similar situations for others.

Dear GroverH,
first of all thank you very much for your reply- after a long, long time. Of course I will try to follow this rather complicated procedure. Nevertheless, I must say that something is wrong if a user is faced with such problems and corrections of a software. Would it not be better to consolidate the software instead of adding more and more features unless it explodes?

I am sorry, but I cannot download the new scheduler. When I click on the link I receive the message "Page not found"!!!
- Log in to post comments

I regret to say, but what you suggest is just awful.
I have downloaded acronisscheduler461 from another source and updated True Image Home 2010.
I have run schedmgr.exe and issued "Task Zap". According to what you have said, this should delete all Tasks. However, when I open True Image Home 2010, all unscheduled tasks are still there. The same in the folder "scripts"! Obviously, no script has been deleted. Is True Image Home 2010 part of Kafka's world?
- Log in to post comments

You did not mention whether you deleted any of the scripts from the scripts folder or any tasks from the Get List display?
If you are willing to create the tasks again, then return to the Scripts folder and delete all the scripts listed in the folder.
Click on the schedschedmgr.exe" and type the Get List to show its contents. It should be empty. If it isn't, then use the delete procedure and delete each task. When finished, it should be empty.
I would certainly concur that the instructions are not easy to follow. ABout the only way to avoid them would be to unisntall and run the Cleanup utility . Confirm that the all traces have been removed and then reinstall. I responded to your post within 24 hours of seeing it and my response took conserable time to create. When I have time, I will modify so to make the instructions more clear and more effective but you have everything you need to see if this solves your problem without waitinig for my modifications.
I find it much more effective to NOT create or use the One Touch but create my own task to do a disk option backup based on my schedule.
Giood luck.

As you suggested, I had run schedmgr.exe.
Typing "get List" I received a list of 6-8 files. Then I typed "task zap" which deleted the list. Typing again "get list" did not show any file.
I have then checked in True Image Home what has been deleted and found that none of my unscheduled tasks have been deleted. By the way, since some time I do not work with the "One-Click Backup".
After I received your answer shown above I started again schedmgr.exe (see attached file). I have no idea how to interprete this.
In your response you write that uninstalling and running the CleanUp utility could help. I cannot see that such a utility is available for TIH 2010. On contrary, it is said that such a utility can no longer be made available.
I suggest that Acronis is carefully analysing this problem and provides the user with an update. I am afraid that next time you propose to modify the registry or a system file.
Best regards,
Klaus Lassmann

Thank you Klaus for the update. Your attachment shows all hidden tasks gone. Hopefully, this should stop the unwanted Sunday night run.
Unfortunately, Acronis has revised their instruction on the 2011 cleanup utility so it is no longer applicable to 2010.
You might find my post #2 of interest regarding the use of OneTouch but you may have already read it since it has been posted for such a long time.

Thanks for your help. I just would like to add that the problems were not only the sunday night runs. With build 7154 True Image Home tried several times a day (!) to backup something, failed and produced an error message. Please see my attachments in previous posts (error02.doc and error03.doc for further details). I will watch whether these attempts to start a backup which was never defined nor scheduled are still made and whether error messages are reported.

Dear GroverH,
it seems that build 7154 -together with the updated scheduler and all further corrections you proposed- now works. Up to now there are no further error messages.
However, since I have installed build 7154, I have noticed that the image backup size and time have doubled. This has also been reported elsewhere. Two steps forward and one back?

Any ideas yet? Of course I have carefully checked all settings, they are as before. Is there a huge file that is included now in the image backup?

A defrag done after the full would cause the next inc or dif to be much larger. You might want to also check your disk for disk errors and file errors.
I don't know why there would be file size differences but it is possible. If you have the time and the storage space, you could test it by performing a backup when booted from the Recovery CD using one version and then repeat the test using a different version CD.
On my system, I am using XP Pro. I have system restore turned off as I feel I do not need it with having regular backups. I likewise, empty the Acronis temp file plus other temp files on a regular basis so as to not add to the bloat.
You could mount one of the large backups and look at its content. Adding any large video or other large comporess files to your base system shows up pretty quick in a backup as files of this type are already compressed so the backup is increased by the full file size. Should I have a desire to check space assignments, I have a program on my system called "TreeSize" which I use to see which folders occupy the most space.
You might also use the Windows search feature and look for any large files and sort them according to date. The newest build may be larger than prior versions (I do not know for sure) but it would not be expect it to be noticeably larger in your backups.
- Log in to post comments

I speak only of full backups which increased in size (and therefore also in time) by a factor of 2 with build 7154. Of course I clean up the system from time to time. I simply cannot detect anything that differs too much (may be a few percent) compared with the many backups that I have performed before with all versions of True Image Home 2010 and previous versions on the same PC. There are no videos or similar files in the backup since only disk c: is safed, which contains only the Windows system (XP Pro). And this system is on the PC since many years.
It is too difficult for me to analyse different backups and try to find out a reason. It would be completely sufficient if Acronis could either give a reason for the increase of the image size (may be that with this version some large system files are copied which have not been copied before) or could confirm that there should be no reason for it. Please consider that this "new" behavior has been freported also elsewhere.

K. Lassmann
