Acronis have not published any information of the antivirus engine being used but looking at the CyberProtect logs will show many references to BitDefender within the log data.
A question and a comment:
QUESTION:
Is the "Advanced protection" feature meant to replace existing virus / malware / cybersecurity applications we might have like McAfee, Norton, Kaspersky, etc. or act alongside / redundantly to such packages?
COMMENT:
BitDefender is DANGEROUS! They have a VERY SLICK SUCKER SUBSCRIPTION MODEL such that you cannot control the auto-renewal from your user account screen. You also MUST contact them via email / phone no later than 60 days in advance of your renewal to turn it off, except they will usually not get back to you / ignore your request until past the 60 day point wherein they will tell you you WILL be renewed and WILL NOT have your charge refunded even if you do not want to renew. A number of users have had to go to court to get BitDefnder to cancel an auto-renewal and gain a refund. (Search the web for "BitDefender Renewal Scam".)
Even more troubling, the one time I tried BitDefender, I was immediately (within 24 hours of installation) spammed / phished by dozens of emails originating in Romania. From a what I could gather, it appears that BitDefender has tight relations with Romanian intelligence services (and therefore Russian intelligence services) that is not unlike Kaspersky's relation with the FSB (which includes Kaspersky empoyees accompanying FSB 'enforcers' when they raid Russian dissidents' residences).
So if, in fact, there is an Acronis - BitDefender relationship, I would advise NOT opting in on Acronis "Advanced protection" services unless you are cool with Putin browsing about on your computers.
Bottom line, Acronis needs to disclose any third-party application code they use in the product so we know EXACTLY who is looking at our private data other than Acronis.

I may be confused, but I am sure that during beta testing we were informed that they use a third party threat data base but the engine was developed internally.

Ian, if you open any of the new CyberProtect logs you will see entries like the ones below from my own laptop: C:\ProgramData\Acronis\CPS\Logs

25/08/2020 08:25:09:608 AM [T][AVC] (OEX:14889:2): 'unknown' verdict from 'Bit-Defender'
This is straight from the logs with no attempt by Acronis to disguise the use of BitDefender by CyberProtect. Whether BitDefender are just providing the virus database data or are involved in the actual antivirus engine etc is impossible to tell just from the logs!

Hello Everyone,
Acronis has our own antivirus engine for AI-based behavioral protection and our own signature engine. We are licensing signatures from one of the top antivirus vendors; therefore we are using some of the components to support signatures.

So, should I run both my subscription antivirus (Bitdefender Total Security) and Acronis Active Protection (TI 2021)? If so, are there any recommended configurations options in order to maximise protection and minimise conflict?
Thanks :-)

Many users completely disable Cyber Protection, however I would suggest that it is a good idea to continue to enable Active Protection first introduced in ATI 2017, as this protects you backups. I use Norton 360 and have Malicious Files and Malicious Websites disable (as they a well covered by Norton), and under settings on the Antivirus table I have set scan set to never scan (as it is, as far as I can workout redundant given my settings) - it can also cause a significant performance hit.

Essentially, decide and stick with only one antivirus solution! Do NOT run two such solutions!

Hi everybody. I am frustrated in finding out that even Kaspersky Internet security seems not fully compatible with Acronis Cyber protect Home office (at least this the version I am using). in fact, if you keep activated the auto-start option of KIS, after few minutes the BSOD comes out if not always very often. A good work-around can be to keep the KIS autostart option deactivated, but I am still not able to understand why a software purchased for backups should make our life so complicated with anti-virus!!

Enrico, please open a support case direct with Acronis if having both ACPHO and KIS installed is causing a BSOD - they need to investigate this with you.
