ATI 2021 not recognising hard dik

Thread solved

I recently upgraded to 2021. I have a daily incremental backup to an external drive but in addition I have a second internal hard drive and once a week I do a simple backup of the whole system to that drive (Drive2)

This has been running for years but yesterday it suddenly failed. The error message says Error 0x2160003: No current disk.

On Friday I had my main SSD drive replaced and I was wondering if that was the problem so I tried to recreate the backup. When I select Add Backup the default source seems to be the whole system and the default destination is Acronis Cloud. When I try to change that the only option it offers me is the external drive. I have checked the spare internal drive and copied a couple of files to it to make sure it is still working.

Anybody help?

John, the 'no current disk' error is caused by replacing your source SSD disk, regardless of whether this was cloned to the new disk (because the drive identifier will be different).

For your original backup task, if you still have it, you should just need to reselect the Source disk and partitions by clicking on the Source panel, then on Disks & Partitions etc.

This shouldn't prevent you from creating a new backup task to your second drive, but if you use the default 'Entire PC' option, that will not allow you to backup to a drive that is included in the source selection.  Again, click through on the Source panel, pick Disks & Partitions then select only your OS SSD disk so that the second disk isn't included.

OK Tried that.

I added a new backup and I clicked on Change Source , Disks and Partitions and selected Drive C (SSD OS) and Drive D(Data) and clicked OK

Again the default destination is Acronis Cloud and when I choose destination it is only offering my external drive as as alternative to the Cloud

Also why is my normal daily incremental backup still working OK?

Thanks

John

John, are your Drive C (SSD OS) and Drive D(Data) both on the same disk drive, or are they on separate drives?  You cannot backup to a drive that is also in the source selection.

What is your normal daily incremental backup using for source and destination?  Is it running successfully?

Steve

My C Drive with the OS id the SSD

My D Drive with data is an internal 2tb HD

My F Drive which is empty is my Drive2 and is another 2tb HD

I have just looked at my Incremental daily backup and I cannot tell you the source because it the backup screen does not let me click on the source abd as I set it up a year or more ago. I am now concerned that it may not be working properly as my C and D drives together are about 130gb but the first day of the current incremental only backed up 81gb whereas the week before (beforee SSD replaced) it was 102gb

I am now quite confused. I still don't know why I cannot create a backup using my Drive2 as a destination

Regards

John

John, where is your F Drive, is this an internal or external drive?  How is it formatted? (NTFS or exFAT, MBR or GPT?)

You should always be able to click through on the Source panel for any backup task provided that it is not active / running a backup.  If you can't then that suggests something has become corrupted and perhaps it is time to delete that task and create a new one.

Steve

My F Drive is a 2tb internal hd and is NTFS

I will recreate my Incremental daily backup as it is currently the only one I have running

Any ideas why I cannot copy to an internal drive?

Thanks

John

John, there should be no reason why you can't backup to an internal drive - I have my own backups doing exactly this!

There is a new log viewer tool that has now been made available by Acronis via the Community Tools KB page.  See the link in my signature for the MVP Assistant tool.  I would recommend using this and opening the True Image Configuration page in the tool, as this will show you what you have configured for the backup source of your backup task!

See image below using the MVP tool for one of my own disk backup tasks going to an internal drive (E:).

OK , I know that it should work because I had it working a week ago. Since my SSD upgrade it has stopped and I cannot recreate it which was the point of this post in the first place. I don't wish to appear rude but the point of this post remains unanswered

John

John, in order to resolve the 'no current disk' issue per your initial post, you need to be able to reselect the SSD for the backup task, but this is where we come back to the ongoing conversation as you say that you cannot do this!

The next step is to suggest that you do a Repair Install to see if this will help correct things? See KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - for the steps how to do this.

Steve

I ran the Repair as you suggested but nothing has changed. Should I totally reinstall the software?

John, I am doubtful that doing a reinstall would change anything if the repair didn't help here?

Can you create an Acronis System Report and send me a link via a private message to a cloud share for the zip file, i.e. OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive etc?  If so, I can look in more detail at what that shows to see if there something else there that we have missed so far.

KB 58820: Acronis True Image: Collecting System Report

Steve

I do not have any of cloud systems you refer to.. The only Cloud I have is the Acronis one to which I backup. I assume that would not work

John

John, there are various methods of sharing files for free which is what OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive etc provide along with a free amount of online storage, plus there are other free file transfer services available.  Other users have used WeTransfer to provide links to Acronis system report zip files.

See webpage: Best files transfer software in 2020: ways to transfer files online for more information.

Steve

I apologise for the delay in replying but I am also having problems with my model railway electronics! Not just computers I have difficulties with.

I have prepared the System Report

I am trying to set up a WeTransfer link but it is asking me for an email address . What do I do?

My system is now completely broken. The backups to the external drive have also stopped now.

John

Steve

Forget that, I have worked it out. Here is the link

https://we.tl/t-k6bShE0GYj

I can see all the disks are being recognised and if it helps they are as follows using the disk numbers on report

1 D: Data  1.8tb

2 G: Drive 3 1tb

3 C: OS SSD 512 gb (The new disk)

4 F: Drive 2 2tb

5 A Dymo Label printer  !!

6 H: The external drive 2tb

John, thanks for the system report link.

Initial observations:

File System Error 0x7000b: FAT is corrupted.

The above is from the disks.txt report and is for your Dymo Label Printer which looks to present as a FAT12 disk but with file system corruption!  I do not see any indication that this drive letter (I:) is involved in any of the backup tasks.

From the logs and scripts information, I see 3 backup tasks:

Digital Photos-1 - Files & Folders to the Acronis Cloud with no failures noted.

System and SSD - Disk backup to drive H:  No activity shown in the logs.

Incremental C and D to External Drive - Disk backup to drive H:  Successful backups shown on October 6th & 7th.

There looks to be a further task which is orphaned but which has been trying to run via the Acronis Scheduler and producing logs showing failure to find or open the .tibx file.

Task / file name: H:\\KXG50ZNV256G NVMe TOSHIBA 256GB AADA4105.tibx is the missing task and associated file.

For the latter issue, please download the Acronis Scheduler Manager standalone tool and then run this (schedmgr.exe) which will open a black command window.

Type the command: task zap

This command will purge all current scheduled tasks from the Scheduler, so you will need to open the Options for your tasks shown in the GUI and set new schedules for any of the above tasks if these were scheduled previously.

Steve

I must say I did not know my label Printer had a disk. It only prints what I type in !

Now I have lost all my backups with the exception of the one to the Cloud which is only my photos, I am tempted to uninstall ATI and start all over again. Would that solve the Scheduler problem as well. Incidentally that failing task is the old SSD drive being backed up

What do you think?

Thanks

John

PS At least I sorted out my model railway today

John, I would suggest rather than uninstall / reinstall ATI 2021 that you upgrade to the new build #32010 released today as this has fixed some critical issues that I had experienced myself.

Next, if not already done, remove any existing Disk backup tasks to leave only your Files to the Acronis Cloud, then create a simple new Disk backup of just your main OS SSD drive, and point this to a new folder on your backup drive H: by using the Browse button on the Destination panel rather than to the root folder of H:

I would recommend still using the Acronis Scheduler Manager tool to do a task zap before doing the update to the new build as you have a phantom task in the works that won't be removed otherwise.

Looks like that has fixed it. Now merrily recreating all my backups.

Small point, is there any way to get the email notification to indicate which backup a message has come from. Mine are all headed the same and it just gives the name of the computer

One thing I have just noticed is that the backup files are just named tibx. previously on an incremental backup it would include the sequence number in the backup name

Thanks

John

John, in your task Notifications settings page, click on the 'Show extended settings' link then in the Subject field put %OPERATION_STATUS% - %COMPUTER_NAME% - %BACKUP_NAME% or play with the order of these options to get what suits you best!

There are no sequence numbers appended with the new .tibx file chains other than a simple numeric value appended  when a new chain is started or if differential backups are being created.

Hi Steve,

I have a similar problem with ATI 2021 that not recognize my external Hd when I try to restore the only partition of my OS. If instead I try to restore the data partition or a single folder or file ATI runs perfectly. I need help about this. Thanks. Daniel
