error occured while creating the file
I get the following message a few seconds after my scheduled full system backup starts: "error occurred while creating the file." I am then given the choice to browse, retry, or cancel. I hit browse and try to put the backup in the folder with my other backups and it won't let me. Retry doesn't work either. When I cancel, I'm done, but have no backup. What to do? Thanks.

Hi, I have the latest build of True Image 11 (51050). Im using on Windows 7 Home premium, and trying to backup to a network file share. Ive tried to, also, backup to a mapped drive of the share. Everything I try gives me; "Cannot create file" I have the option to retry, browse, or close. Any solutions yet? NOTE: the log says; "create incramental backup archive..., then "Access to file denied"

Hello all,
Thank you for your message.
There can be several reasons for this error message. Our program can be losing connection to the backup location if it is an external USB hard drive for example. Also, there can be problems with accessing the external hard drive, there are not enough permissions for that user to store the backup files.
To localize the problem and eliminate any program issues, can you please try the following:
1. Click on Disk and partition backup or File backup depending on your type of backup.
2. Do not touch the destination window and simply start creating the backup. Does it fail?
3. Perform step #1 and this time, click on the destination window and select a backup location. Does it fail?
We will also need the following information to get to the bottom of the problem:
1. Screenshots of every step taken to create the backup task.
2. Type of backup location.
3. AcronisInfo report.
Please make sure that you are using the latest build (6597) of Acronis True Image 2011 Home.
Looking forward to your replies and if you have additional questions please let me know.
Thank you.

Hi Anton.
Thank you for your feedback. I have already performed all of the suggested actions and am still having the issue.
The Acronis tech team is working on my issue at this time.
I do have a question though, since it seems as though several users are experiencing this issue, is there yet a definitive fix?
Thanks,
Gordon

Hello Gordon,
Thank you for the follow-up.
There is no definitive fix at the moment, I am very sorry for any inconvenience. Our testing lab performed various tests and none of them were able to get this issue reproduced.
From what I can see, your support case has been escalated to one of our Expert engineers and I am certain that he will be able to resolve this problem.
If you have additional questions, please let me know.
Thank you.

The previous version works like a charm. Why not go back to the previous code, and re-design the whole thing? Allow for the new features of Windows 7 to be utilized, (like being able to view, or backup libraries). Here is how you reproduce the problem. First buy a new computer with plenty of RAM, and Windows 7 Home premium. Now install Acronis. Whalla! you will not be able to backup to external hard disks on your local area network. Hope this information helps ;)

Just checking back to see how Acronis is doing? Do we have a solution to the "E00040014 Access to the file is denied" error yet ?

Here is my point folks. And I know most will agree. If you are making millions of dollars from a product, but that product has a fundamental flaw, you are making claims that are not true. If Acronis had made it clear "TrueImage 11 will only backup to directly connected USB drives" I would have skipped the product and purchased another software. Why would any company remove capability and advertise "new features"? Should Acronis make efforts to correct its mistake to its customers? (i.e. change the advertisement to reflect the truth), or should this be a matter for the customers to petition for a class action. I like Acronis, and believe they honestly want to produce a quality product. I just want my upgrade to operate as it has in the past, and give me new features that show its integration with Windows 7. We cannot even see Libraries for goodness sake. I work hard, and do not have time to troubleshoot. I wished I did. My free time is slated for my family.
Please Acronis, just fix the issue so I can do what I need it to do.

Collecting screen shots, debugging code, implementing debugging reports, Holding your left foot with your tongue touching your nose while singing "I am woman" has nothing to do with using a luxury product. That is what you pay programmers to do. If you want me to work for you, lets see some money. Otherwise, get your act together, and fix your product.

I get the same error.
Trying to backup to a network share. The share is still visible and accessible, permissions are set correctly. However, for no apparent reason, ATI can't rename the file. Even more annoying: If you don't get to the computer fast enough when the error message appears, ATI choses "cancel", and your backup fails.
The dialogue is not helpful at all ("Retry, Browse, cancel" - reminds me of older times "Oh, you shouln't have done that. 'Restore, restart, quit?'").

Marius,
I experienced the same issue the first times I tried to backup to a network share that was mounted a mapped network disk on the computer that was backing up. The problem went away after I used the same account and password to use windows on both computers. Easier to do in a home environment, I agree.
Some users have had better behavior when they used the full UNC path of the share to point ATI at the destination instead of a mapped network disk.

Yes this post is 2 years old but who cares, when it is important.
Pat, no wonder u are Acronis MVP as ur solution was spot on.
In my case I was trying to push an acronis backup to a WD MYBOOKWORLD NAS box. Struggled with the above mentioned error for hours.
Logged into the WD device and setup same username/password as admin user on the Vista Home Premium machine and Bingo!!!!, all works.
What does this prove? It proves that my version of ATI 2010 is buggy with respect to its ability to store network crudentials. To confirm this behaviour, if you choose the browse option from the error message, you will see a tab up top that says authentication settings (or something similar). When you go into there, just type in any username and password you like and click on "test authentication settings" and it works everytime, which prooves this feature is just not working.
The reason why same username/password on both devices works is because by default Windows computers etc will try and authenicate with same crudentails as the currently logged on user. So if you create same user/password on the NAS box, those crudentials will work and everything runs smoothly.
I can only hope it is now working in newer versions of Acronis.
P.S. I am wondering if the bug only affects Vista Home Premium as it doesn't cache windows network passwords like the Business and Ultimate versions do. I mean , maybe the Acronis code is makes use of cached crudentials which is non-existent in the Home edition of Vista.

Vista Home Premium does indeed have the Windows Credential Manager.
To use Credential Manager in Windows Vista:
Open Control Panel.
Open User Accounts.
Click Manage My Network Passwords on the Related Tasks panel (on the left side of the window). You’ll get a dialog box listing all of your stored usernames and passwords.
Add another username and password, or remove the existing ones or change their properties.

Sorry James, I realise your trying to help here but your post is misleading and detracts from what is the final answer (being my last post)
I put a lot of effort and research into the issue prior to post and it was thus correct in every way.
Yes Vista Home Premium has the Credential Manager in place but it is less rich in features. It doesnt allow for caching of Windows Logon crudentials.
If you went one step further by clicking the "add" button on the right hand side, you will see that the "A windows logon credential" is greyed out. You only have the option to add credentials for a "website or program".
Refer to this post and you will see what I mean: http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/532818-vista-home-premium-will-not-sa…
Because of this, when the system reboots, access to things like NAS drives will only work if they have the same username/password as exists on the Windows Vista Home machine.
Windows Vista Business and Ultimate do not have this problem.
Furthermore, since ATI2010 seems to rely on these Windows logon cached crudentials itself, it doesn't work in ATI2010 on machines running Vista Home Premium and Basic editions.
THE END !!!!!
