The first thing I realized was that I couldn't recognize the Synology under different start DVDs. When I enter \\\\ Synology \\ Backup, there are connection problems (allegedly wrong username or password). It was only possible with ftp (same username and password). Second realization that I can only restore files with the 'tib' modification. The files with 'tibx' (backing up my computer, backing up my hard drive) crash. Error message: 'this is not the last volume of a backup archive'. So if I had a hard drive problem I would be at a loss. Does anyone have any insight into why this is?

Horst, the first action that I would recommend here is to create new Acronis Rescue Media on either a DVD or a small USB memory stick (2GB -- 32GB) using the 'Simple' method of the Acronis Rescue Media Builder.

See KB 65508: Acronis True Image 2021: how to create bootable media and KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

Once that you have the new rescue media, test this by booting your computer (using the same BIOS boot mode that your Windows OS uses), and try to connect to your Synology NAS.  You can test this by trying to start a backup to your NAS which will cause the network credentials box to be shown.  I would recommend using the IP address of the NAS, i.e. \\192.168.0.29\

If you can establish a connection to the NAS in this way, then you should be able to do the same for a Recovery operation too.

For the new .tibx backup files used by ATI 2020/21, it is very important that these are not moved or any files deleted as this will cause the type of message you reported!

See the following screen images from some recent testing I did with one of my systems and my own Synology NAS.

The above images were from creating a new backup to my Synology NAS which I then used to do a disk recovery of the same system from.

\\\\ Synology \\ Backup

May be a typo but syntax should be \\Synology\Backup which should trigger the credentials prompt.

Bob, sorry that was probably my fault by not correcting the syntax shown in Google Translate for the original german text which was \\Synology\Datensicherung in the initial post.

Ah, got it, thanks Steve
