automatic updates and proxy support

Thread needs solution

Hello,

i am using TI 2010 Home Build 7.046 German. When i start the program it hangs a half minute before the normal working screen appears. I looked around the options to find out something about this delay. The last point i checked was the "Search for automatic updates at startup". If this item is unchecked, the delay disappeared. Our company is using a proxy connection to get online to the outside and normally i have to put my username and password in a proxy dialog. Am i right, if i suggest the update checking routine has no support to connect over a proxy and waits until a connect timeout is reached ?
May be, Acronis can support this in the future, or just take the proxy entries from the "Online Backup" ?

Hello Helmut,

Let me shed some light on the issue.

You are absolutely correct, Acronis Tue Image tries to check for the new builds on startup, it takes some time since proxy support is not implemented yet, and that fact cause the delay.

I'll forward your suggestion about proxy support to the responsible department and probably future versions of the software will support this feature.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Hello

I work in a local government department and we use a proxy server to get online.
If I try to check updates, I will get an error.
=>May be, Acronis can support this in the future, or just take the proxy entries from the "Online Backup"?

Thank you for your answer.

Best regards

Pascal

Hello Pascal,

Welcome to our comment, we're glad to greet you here! I understand your concern, and will do my best to help you.

Unfortunately proxy support hasn't been released yet. We know that it's support is planned for the future releases, but we don't have any ETA available.

I've also forwarded your comment to the Development team. Customers requests help to increase the priority of the feature, so probbaly we will have this feature added in the nearest future.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Hello,

I'm testing Acronis True Image 2013 in my company right now.
Unfortunatelly my company uses also a HTTP-Proxy.

As i see this topic is opened for over 3 years now I wanted to ask when you will finally be able to implement
proxy support in your software. (Since I'm softwaredeveloper on my own I know how easy this would be)

If your software uses an "App.config" I would be able to implement proxy support on my own if you could tell me where the file is stored ;-)

Thank you for your fast answer.

Best regards

Stephan

Hello,

I just finished installing the latest version of Acronis True Image 2013 and can't believe you don't provide proxy configuration while offering an online sync functionality. This is a major roadblock to use Acronis as an all-around backup & sync solution and I (as well as my colleagues) still have to use other vendors for file sync because of this limitation.

As Stephan mentioned above, proxy support is a minor development which impacts corporate users dramatically.

Please advise on availability.

Thank you.

Kind regards,
MC

This is really sad as I have just upgraded to 2014 Premium of TI and the Proxy issue is still not solved. I contacted the help line today and I got the snotty comment to disable the proxy and try direct. Great Help I must say especially if behind a company firewall/ proxy.

True Image is a HOME based product, and in 13 years of IT work, I've never seen a home setup that uses proxy. Proxy environments are for businesses, which Acronis has other software for corporate uses. I don't see a need or use for Acronis to implement this in their home based products.

My 2 cents, I could care less about what you have say in any attacks towards MY opinion.

There are very view products that I use that do not cooperate with a proxy. And based on the limited research I have done so far, it appears Acronis True Image Home is one of them. I use a home license of the Sophos (formerly Astaro) Security Gateway which is a Unified Threat Management system. As part of that system, I have enabled the proxy specifically for an additional layer of filtering to help avoid security issues on my home network.

I only use Acronis for project or special use scenarios (like re-imaging or OS upgrade backup). My primary backup for data is with CrashPlan+ to my local NAS and their online system. CrashPlan does respect proxy pac files and is cross platform.

I did poke holes in the firewall to make Acronis activate the license and for my signin with the sync service. I do not yet actually use the sync because I haven't researched it's encryption offering.

Using my text editor I searched "acronis.com" in "C:\programdata\Acronis" Each entry I found has resulted in a DNS group entry for a firewall rule.

There are scenarios where Acronis (and others) should think outside the box for situations where proxies and firewalls are in use . It's not just for corporate anymore. We are approaching 2014, old thinking about security can hurt your product if people think there is more maintenance involved than it should. I will agree with one commenter, you do not make a product with a cloud offering that does not work with a proxy. If it was simply activation; it would be justifiable not to have proxy support. But adding these online features, should include proxy consideration.
