Acronis consistently uploads and downloads roughly 1gb of *something* per day. I don't use cloud backup, so what/why is this?

Thread needs solution

Hellp,

I have noticed that several of the Acronis services are some of the top communicators to/from my system. At any given time, basically, it is uploading and downloading 20kb/s to some systems in Massachusets. I don't use any cloud backup services, so I am just interested in what all of the constant communication is?

Thanks,

Do you have Cyber Protection active - the information provided suggest that you do. If so which modules are you using. The virus scanner will be regularly downloading signature files, not sure how large they are. If you are located in the USA the server from which the updates are obtained. Could be in the location identified.

I don't see anything with the actual name of "Cyber Protection", but I am guessing that just encompasses the things under the Protection tab? The anti-ransomware protection is on, but the real-time and web filtering are turned off.

See KB 65464: Acronis True Image 2021: Windows services and processes - which describes all the active components for this version.

There are a number of these components which communicate with Acronis servers across the internet, including for updates for Active Protection, the new Vulnerability scanner feature and also Google Analytics if enabled!

The aakore Acronis Agent Core Service is involved in most of these activities as shown in your first screen image in your post.

Whether protection is on or off, there is still a check for protection updates every five minutes. If you are comfortable with the Acronis Scheduler Manager, it is possible to change this time although the change can be temporary as it will be reset back to 5 minutes under certain conditions.

I mostly wanted to make sure that this is expected and intended behavior, as it seems quite excessive. Download for updates, ok, I suppose I could see that, but also uploaded? What possible analytics would they be gathering from my system that equates to 1GB a day?

I am honestly not too thrilled that it is also presumably writing to disk, that 1GB per day, every day to my SSD. Which of course, has a limited life span determined by writes.

I guess I am the only one who finds it somewhat strange?

You are definitely not alone in being concerned by the overheads introduced by the new Protection features in ATI 2021.

Please submit Feedback directly to Acronis (use the tool provided in the GUI Help section) and complain about the imposition of these new protection features plus ask for your vote to be added to the Acronis internal change request: TI-213392 Allow installation without Antimalware components
