[USB Key] Backup Wizard not running on Acer TravelMate P2

Thread solved

Hello,

I'm trying to make a backup with TI 2021 (build 35860) from a 2 GB USB KEY burned with Rufus 3.13.

UEFI boot is the only option (no Legacy boot asked with the current BIOS configuration).

To avoid error on USB storage location, I've splitted the SSD of the laptop with a dedicated NFTS partition of 50 GB.

I'm using an USB mouse because TouchPad is not recognized.

I tried with a previous version of TrueImage 2020, SSD drive is not found (computer too recent ?).

Procedure :

Click on Backup->My disks
Disk 2 -> [NTFS] C:
Browse for backup location : F:\MyBackup.tibx (the dedicated partition on SSD)
Click on OK to close the Browse button dialog
Cannot click on the Next button. Already wait 20 minutes. The mouse pointer is still working. Cannot click anywhere else.

Any idea ?

Thanks for help.

Vincent

First question: Why are you using Rufus to create rescue media when the ATI 2021 Rescue Media Builder tool can create the best version of media directly from your Acer PC to your USB stick, including all necessary device drivers for the same?

See KB 65508: Acronis True Image 2021: how to create bootable media and KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

If you are using the ISO download version of the rescue media then there are known issues in booting Acer PC's with this type of media when UEFI secure boot is enabled due to restrictions in the Acer BIOS - so again, the recommendation is to use the 'Simple' method of the media builder tool to create Windows PE rescue media, not to use the Linux based media per the ISO.

Hello,

some old habits die hard. So I tried the proposed method which worked :)

Only problem. I used a 128 GB USB key so I would have liked to have the BOOT and the image on the same device. However, the generated file is 20 GB and is not compatible with FAT32. It is obviously not possible to partition the USB key with an NTFS partition because Windows warns that it will not recognize this partition.

Can we have Acronis BOOT on a stick with a single 128 GB NTFS partition? (there I had to use an external hard drive to test my restoration).

Thank you

Vincent, there are limitations imposed on USB stick media that are imposed by Microsoft rather than by Acronis with regards to having more than one partition on the stick.

I have played with having a 2GB FAT32 partition along with a 120GB NTFS partition on one of my own 128GB USB sticks and this will work but there were other issues with those partitions being visible / accessible in Windows.

The better solution is not to use a USB stick, but to use a pocket sized USB 3.x HDD or SSD instead.  A little bit bigger but works just fine with having a small boot FAT32 partition alongside a large NTFS storage partition.  I use a 2TB Seagate 2.5" laptop HDD in a small USB 3.0 enclosure that works great and is easy to slip in my laptop bag pocket for when travelling.
