"Open Existing Backup" opens incorrect .tib file

Thread needs solution

Trying to figure out of the following behavior is a bug or a "feature"...

I copied a large .tib file (a file/folder backup created using a "Single Version" scheme in the Win10 ATI 2021 app) from one external drive (G:) to another (F:) using xcopy.  I then opened ATI, selected Delete/Remove for the original backup job, and then used "Add Existing Backup" to open the copied file on the F:-drive.  The only reason for doing this is that I wanted to verify the copied back-up file before deleting the original .tib from drive G:.

However, when the backup file was added to the list, if I right-click the file and select "Open Location", it opens the location of the original (G:), not the location of the copy (F:).

I resolved this by removing the file from ATI's backup list again, then unmounting drive G:, and again using Add Existing to select the copy located on the F: drive.  This allowed me to verify the backup, except that ATI forced me to click a button labeled "Reconfigure" (and then select the new file location on F: one more time) before it would display the results of the validation.

I was surprised by ATI's failure to load the correct file in the initial attempt.  Is this a bug?  Also, is there a more efficient method to accomplish the above (or to prevent the problem from occurring in the first place)?  For example, is there somewhere I can select the "Reconfigure" function at some earlier point in the process?

I suppose I could have avoided all of these complications by simply doing the validation of the copy using the boot media version of ATI...

You could have use the Move option in the Backup Operations menu to simply move the backup files to a new location.

Page 73 + 74 of the user Guide

  • Move - click to move all of the backup files to another location. The subsequent backup versions will be saved to the new location.           If you change the backup destination by editing the backup settings, only new backup versions will be saved to the new location. The earlier backup versions will remain in the old location

I prefer xcopy, as it allows for verification of the copy operation.  Does the ATI "move" function perform any verification?

No, the move function does not to my knowledge provide a verification.  The validation option performs that function.

Using xcopy requires that you use the Add existing backup option to bring the backup task back to life or you risk task corruption and the error messages that go along with that.  You are better off using the Move option followed by a validation.
