Differential backup scheme mysteriously changed to incremental

Thread needs solution

I am still using Acronis 2018 now in January 2021. My OS Is Windows 7, SP1, 64-bit. My twice-weekly "My Folders" backups have been running flawlessly for two years. I had the backup scheme configured to do 7 Differential  backups after each Full backup. I also had the Options set to wake the computer before attempting a backup and to shut down the computer after the backup.

This past week I discovered that the backup has mysteriously changed to Incremental, with the wake-up option and the shutdown-after-backup option NOT set. My product is Acronis Ver. 2018, Build 15470 and it is apparently on the newest build for 2018. The reason I happened to notice the problem is that my backup did not run as scheduled and the computer did not shut down. This was because both above-mentioned options were not longer in effect.

Also, I am the only user of this PC, so nobody else would have changed it. It appears to be some bug within Acronis.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Brian, welcome to these public User Forums.

There have been other reports in the forums of this type of reset of backup scheme settings that are reminiscent of issues that occurred in November 2020 which were caused by the Acronis Dashboard servers (following changes that Acronis made at that time!).

I suspect that a similar event has occurred though I have not seen this for any of my own systems, but I only tend to use Incremental backups with mostly default settings, so may not have noticed!

You will need to do several things:

  1. Reconfigure your backup task back to how you want it to be set with differentials.

  2. Either sign in to your Acronis Dashboard (from the ATI 2018 GUI Account page) and remove your PC from the Dashboard to prevent further unwanted changes
    or
Open the Windows Services control panel and set the Acronis Managed Machine Mini Service to be Disabled start up instead of being set as Automatic.
Note: if taking the second option, this would be undone if you had to repair or reinstall ATI on your PC.

  3. Send in Feedback to Acronis via the Feedback tool provided in the ATI GUI Help area to complain about this issue and include a link to this forum topic.

Hello Brian,

sorry to know about the issue! May I ask you to send us Acronis system report from one of your PC via the Feedback option? We're currently investigating the reports about the settings loss and my colleagues would be grateful for any additional piece of information.

Brian,

I've sent you an FTP link with instructions in a private message so that you can upload the system report (to access private messages go to My account at the top of a forum page and then to Dialogs)
