LoadLibrary failed with error 998: In T-I 2020/WIN7
Recently, I’ve started to get this error message
“LoadLibrary failed with error 998: Invalid access to memory location”
...when Acronis T-I 2020 starts loading up, immediately after WIN7 starts. (It might mean a .dll file is missing.)
For reasons given below (*), I believe the error message is associated with my Acronis installation, even though I haven’t noticed any fault in the way Acronis runs.
Originally I installed T-I 2020 in late 2019 (date of Acronis folder in Program Files (x86) is Dec 2nd 2019 = date of purchase).
Current Acronis update (24.7.38530) was installed Feb 17th 2021.
I’m fairly certain that the error message, on starting WIN7 and Acronis, first appeared a few days before this latest Acronis update.
However, I had been messing about with the machine while trying to track down the reason for the machine hanging on an almost daily basis for some weeks prior (one application hangs and refuses to Save, then others and eventually even explorer.exe appears to cease to function - probably not helpful to elaborate further here).
* The error message appears when Acronis loads, and I only realised its connection with Acronis after I’d placed the Acronis icon on the Taskbar. When I moused over the icon (not sure whether I clicked), a small copy of the error message sprouted from the icon itself, duplicating the message already showing mid-screen.
One other point that might be relevant: the system-tray Acronis icon ceased to be displayed at about the same time as the error message started appearing.
My Downloads folder contains the original AcronisTrueImage2020.exe file dated Dec 2nd 2019.
I could try Repairing or reinstalling, or maybe uninstalling before reinstalling, then seeking the latest update.
Does anyone have a better suggestion, please? (I note that at least one previous Error 998 query, but for an earlier T-I version, seems still unresolved.)

Thank you for replying.
First: WIN7 Programs & Features only allowed Uninstall for T-I 2020 - no Repair option existed.
I tried to simply reinstall the original Dec 2019 .exe over the existing installation: No go - Acronis replied that it was already up-to-date so it wouldn't let me reinstall on top of the existing installation.
Then I uninstalled the program. While it was uninstalled I rebooted and got no Error998 message, confirming that the message is indeed associated with Acronis T-I 2020.
After reinstalling from the original Dec 2019 .exe, the Error998 reappeared.
Also, the version number showing in Programs & Features is now 24.5.22510 (which the Account window tells me is up-to-date, even though the number looks "smaller" than it was before un/re-installing)
But if I close Acronis by exiting at the Taskbar, and then reopening it (without rebooting the machine), the message doesn't appear again. So the Error998 seems to involve the original load up.
And still no Acronis Icon in the system tray.
ALSO: No new hardware, but I do have an external HDD plugged in; a memory stick and camera's sandisk that I plug in and out fairly regularly too.
The only driver I'm aware of updating around the time of the problem starting (while checking earlier faults as mentioned in my original post) is an AMD graphics/video driver.
Any further thoughts, please?

Paul, see KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - for details of how to do a Repair Install.
Also 24.5.22510 is not the latest build as has been superseded by builds 25700 and 38530.

The only other hit in these forums for the same error message is from late 2015 and was resolved after reinstalling the version of ATI involved at that time.

When installing or updating ATI 2020 please ensure that any installed security software is not getting involved and that this is done from an Administrator account.

There are a number of reports on the web of failed AMD Graphics driver updates that result in this error. The solution is to uninstall the current AMD drivers using the uninstall utility from AMD and then install the latest graphics driver for your hardware from AMD.
I am providing link to AMD support site below that should assist you in performing the above.

Updated to T-I 2020 Update 4
Err998 still there
Tried Repair; methods 1 & 2, both failed at early stages.
Ran Repair method 3 OK, but Err998 still there.
Noticed the error appears in the Task Manager and is associated with process TrueImageMonitor.exe.
Also got a 256MB .DMP file, which I'm not going to attempt to open/read.
Next stop is Repair Method 4: Clean install.

PROBLEM SOLVED
Yes - working through the AMD Catalyst Control Center led me to a solution (I took my time by first creating boot media and restore point, to be on the safe side).
The AMD Catalyst Control Center has been replaced by AMD Radeon Software.
Looking back through my notes I see that I did in fact try to update the AMD video driver, by a different route, at an earlier stage of this search for a solution for the Error998, but that didn't solve it.
Many thanks to Steve for prompting the update to latest version of T-I2020 - a step along the way to the solution, and Enchantech for the final step.

I think it does show as solved - doesn't it?
At the top of this page it shows as solved, but there's a blue "Didn't help" marker on your suggestion - I don't think I triggered it, and I can't see how to remove it.
