mms_mini.exe using lots of CPU even when not running a backup or restore

Thread needs solution

I am currently trialling Acronis True Image 2016 with a view to buying it. In fact I will be buying it if I can find a solution to this problem. The problem I have is that the process mms_mini.exe uses a lot of CPU time, even when I am not running a backup or restore operation. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

The mms_mini.exe service communicates with the Family Dashboard feature of True Image 2016.  I would suggest stopping and then restarting this service using Windows Task Manager to see if that stops the CPU load.

Yes, This is Steve again.

That MMS_mini.exe service seems to be hogging my internet. I see that with "netstat -afb -5 > activity.txt".

How would I stop this service completely??

Thanks.

Steve, if you are not using the Acronis Dashboard or Cloud backups etc, then you can simply try disabling the Managed Machine Mini service in the main Services control panel applet.

If you believe this is having a performance impact on your internet bandwith or usage, then please raise this as a Support Case directly with Acronis.

I appreciate that advise Steve. I will do that and monitor my network activity.

I'm running Acronis True Image 2021.

When I start my computer, mms_mini.exe starts thrashing one of my hard drives and will continue until I either shut down my computer or shut down this executable.

How can I permanently disable mms_mini.exe from even starting?  I don't use the cloud family dashboard either, but don't see why it should hammer my drives.... (there's nothing even on the drive to backup, so that's a mystery too).

Carl, welcome to these public User Forums.

ATI 2021 brings in new Cyber Protection features which may be more involved in your scenario here than just the Managed Machine Mini Service used for the Acronis Dashboard in earlier versions that this topic was based on.

I would suggest turning off all Protection initially to see if this improves your performance?

The only way to try to permanently disable the MMMS service is to get the start for this service to be Disabled, but this may get overridden by the Acronis aakore service which uses it!

Hello Carl,

would you mind sending us Acronis system report from your PC and a short description of the issue\how it affects your PC via the Feedback option? I'll pass it to the RnD for review. Normally Acronis processes shouldn't affect the system in any way.

Create system report is in the Tools & Utilities part of ATI, it can be accessed ether from within ATI 2016, or directly (I use OpenShell to get the old Windows 7 fell, so I open Open Shell, then click on programs, then select Acronis, the True image then select Tools and Utilities, then select Acronis System Report.
