Raid 0 image to non raid disc
I backup my two HDD's which were in raid 0. Now I am only using one HDD in my computer and no raid configuration. Is it possible to put this image onto one HDD? Or does this raid 0 image need to be copied to 2 HDD's again.? Or do i need to do a clean install on single HDD and start again. So in short can i transfer raid o image to a non raid hdd?
Thanks

Depends on the controller. Some (e.g., older Promise) will allow you to put any drives on two ports and build a new RAID 1 array with either of the drives as the "master". Others (e.g., Intel) are very picky, as I'm finding out now. Bottom line -- you can't have too many backups.

I have a server with raid0 across four disks. I would like to go back to a regular one disk or possibly a raid 1 mirror. The OS is Windows Server 2003 Std edition, is there anything special I need to do or watch out for in order to successfully accomplish this task.

Are you using Windows RAID or hardware RAID? Regardless, the most important thing is to have a complete, independent backup.

Can't provide much specific help with that. There's supposed to be a "server setup" disc that guides you through the process, but I have no experience with it. In general, 1) back up your data from the existing RAID 0 array, 2) use the setup program to define the new array, 3) restore the data.

I wanted to find out first of all if it can be done and if Acronis was the right tool to frat system image off of the existing hardwae raid 0. It sounds like the answer is "Yes". I have the software to reorganiz the raid config. Thanks

I had twin RAID 0 arrays across four disks one of which started to fail and report disk errors on Intel (to the extent that Acronis would not back it up). I backed up all of my data manually (i.e. copied across to an external HDD) and had no option other than to break the array and reformat all the disks as basic NTFS partitions. This obviously necessitated a re-install of the OS and apps as well as copying the data back over - but I didn't lose any data. I would never have attempted to change from RAID 0 to non RAID without a reliable external backup and preferably one that was uncompressed and did not require the OS or a third party program to access - my data is far too valuable for that.
In theory it should be possible to restore from RAID to non RAID but as I couldn't complete a backup (Acronis kept crashing out) I never got to try it. However I would still have done the manual data backup first - just in case.
Good luck with it

Hello,
we have a Dell Poweredge 2950 server running windows server 2003 + sp2
there are 6 physical hard disks (2x250G, 4x750G), the raid has been configured as Raid 1 for the two hard disks with 250G and Raid 5 for the 750G ones.
I have tried to back up a raid configuration before, the backup process finished successfully however when I came to restore the image onto a different server, it failed (cant remember what the error message was)
any suggestions?
Thanks

LionKin,
Are you using the Acronis True Image product or the Acronis Backup and Restore for Servers business software? When restoring to different hardware, Universal Restore is necessary.

Hello James
I used 'Acronis Server Echo 9.1 + universal restore' (this is what is written on the CD case), the image wont be restored onto a different server...

The reason I asked is you posted in the True Image Home - Older Products forum. You should post this in the correct forum to have more folks with experience using the "Echo" products take a look. http://forum.acronis.com/forums/other-business-products-discussions/acr…
