Why Don't Backup File Dates Match TIH Backup Timeline Dates

Thread needs solution

I'm confused by the way True Image Home manages the files in which its backups are stored. The main screen in TIH shows two backups: F0-LaCie and F0-LaCie-L-Drive. Both backups are stored in the directory L:\0\TrueImage.

When I do Explorer and recover for the latter backup I see these dates in TIH timeline:

  • 15-Jan
  • 29-Jan
  • Sat

For the former backup I see these dates:

  • 2-Oct
  • 16-Oct
  • 30-Oct
  • 13-Nov
  • 27-Nov
  • 12-Dec
  • 2-Jan

Based on these dates I would expect to see files in that L:0\TrueImage folder with the names F0-LaCie-L-Drive being the most recent. Instead, this is what I see in Windows Explorer, (sorted by modified date):
Name    Extension    Size    Attributes    Modified    Comment    Created    Width    Height
F0-LaCie(1)3.tib    tib    4.4 GB    ---A-----    2/12/2011 8:18:24 PM         2/12/2011 8:11:12 PM

F0-LaCie(1).tib    tib    34.0 GB    ---A-----    1/15/2011 6:00:16 PM         1/15/2011 5:22:38 PM
F0-LaCie-L-Drive7.tib    tib    4.8 GB    ---A-----    1/2/2011 9:08:02 PM         1/2/2011 9:00:22 PM
F0-LaCie-L-Drive6.tib    tib    4.2 GB    ---A-----    12/12/2010 8:51:26 PM         12/12/2010 8:44:44 PM

F0-LaCie3(1).tib    tib    4.0 GB    ---A-----    11/13/2010 8:01:44 PM         11/13/2010 7:55:20 PM
F0-LaCie3.tib    tib    4.0 GB    ---A-----    10/30/2010 2:37:50 PM         10/30/2010 2:31:26 PM
F0-LaCie2.tib    tib    4 GB    ---A-----    10/16/2010 7:26:20 PM         10/16/2010 7:20:16 PM
F0-LaCie.tib    tib    34.7 GB    ---A-----    10/2/2010 8:14:08 PM         10/2/2010 7:39:10 PM
As expected, three files named F0-LaCie-L-Drive appear but the dates do not correspond to the dates shown in the timeline for this backup: 15-Jan, 29-Jan, and Sat. Can you explain?

From your list, it looks like you have made some changes to the backup name some time betwee 1/2 and 1/15. It is also possible that you deleted some incremental/differential backup and that has left ATI confused.

What is important is that you validate the backups versions you think are compromised. If they validate, you are in good shape (ATI has not lost track of full vs. incremental/differential).

In general with the recent ATI 2011 builds, avoid changing the name of the back up. It is better to recreate a new task, and, even better, to do it in a new directory. Alternatively, you can clean the slate by deleting your previous backups (this will also delete the TIB archive files) and, then, recreate the task.
