Creating Bootable Media - SimpleDisk is readonly
Hello,
We had a USB bootable media that was made a few years ago; however, recently the USB stick became corrupt/unreadable.
I attempted to create another one, but at the last part of the creation process I receive the error:
E00100406:
A removable storage I/O error
Error code: 0x100406
$module = "media_builder_vs_1808"
Tag: 0x23A580C4B3E5C9C5
I/O object 'SimpleDisk' is readonly.
Error code: 0x100402
$module = "media_builder_vs_1808"
Tag: 0x23A580C4B3E5C88B
I have tried various USB drives all formatted in FAT32. None of the drives are read only. I have also tried to instead create an ISO file and then take that ISO file and use a tool such as Rufus to create a bootable media; however, Rufus says the ISO file is either non-bootable or it uses a boot or compression method that is not supported by Rufus.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Steve, thank you for the prompt reply.
I have completed the formatting using the steps you outlined. I also made sure to use a USB port that is directly connected to the motherboard.
The original USB we had was a 128GB USB stick; however the new one I am currently trying to use is a 32GB SanDisk.
After using the above steps you mentioned, I tried to create the bootable media and again received the same exact error. Does the error information I provided in the original post give any insight to what could be causing this?
Thank you

Kenny, my first thoughts are whether you have any security applications which may be stopping the media from being written correctly, i.e. preventing writing to the media boot sector?
Beyond this, then the Media Builder log for the operation may throw more light on what is happening here? C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\ti_media_builder
There is a new MVP Assistant log viewer tool that has now been made available by Acronis via the Community Tools page..
If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.
If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) then look in the Demon logs.
Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.
The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

In the folder structure:
C:\ProgramData\Acronis
I have the following subfolders...
AgentService
DeployServer
FileServer
License Server
PXEServer
SnapAPILogs
SnapDeploy
VssComLogs
Which of those subfolder would have the logs for the media builder?
Thank you

Kenny, they are in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\ti_media_builder but the easiest way to access them is via the new MVP Assistant tool found via the Acronis Community tools link in my signature.

I don't even see the folder TrueImageHome in that folder structure...am I missing something? I downloaded the MVP Assistant, but which logs do I need to look at?

Kenny, see the image below from my own system (running ATI 2021) - what do you see?

Kenny, what actual Acronis application do you have installed on this PC?

Not sure if you're able to read the text on the screenshot, but it's Acronis Snap Deploy 5

...looking at this, I may have posted in the wrong forum :-/
Can this thread be moved?

Kenny, sorry but only the forum moderator may be able to move topics to another forum, so it may be best to make a clean start with a new topic in the Snap Deploy forum.

I'm guessing I should have posted it here instead?
