Upgrade trouble

Thread needs solution

I am having trouble with the upgrade of Acronis True Image Home 2011 to the newest version.

I've been frequently checking for TIH 2011 updates ever since they introduce the issue where your configured SMTP server requires authentication and the one I am using does not do authentication.

So today I saw they have an update.  I went ahead and decided to run the update.  I just checked back after about 40 minutes, and my install was only about 1/3 the way through.  I decided to wait a bit and see if it was moving, and it was not.  I turned off my on-access anti-virus scanner, but this had no effect.

I decided to look in the Windows Event Viewer, and I did find some Information messages that may indicate what could be causing the issue:

These seemed to be related to the explorer.exe process locking files, so I used taskmgr.exe to kill all explorer.exe processes.  However, this made no difference.  I pressed the cancel button, and after a short delay it asked if I wanted to cancel the installation to which I answered yes.  However, it is still stuck on the installation progress window and it is about 10 minutes since I asked it to cancel the installation.

Any ideas?  I'm hesitant to outright terminate the install because I get the feeling that I won't be able to get the product properly installed.

Terminate the install, uninstall the previous version, use the Acronis 2011 cleanup utility to clean everything up, reboot, reinstall 2011.

Well, that worked.

What sucks is I am trying to set up my scheduled backup again and the program keeps crashing on the SMTP settings (in particular when I test them). What a P.O.S.
