Failed to obtain the backup contents - USB media
Hello,
I have two weird (probably unrelated) issues I would like to see opinions/experience of others on:
1. Failed to obtain the backup contents
On one of our storage nodes we have an issue where users can't recover any of the backups located there, but only when using Acronis USB media.
When they connect to the storage node with USB media, they are able to access the Location(s) and also see individual archives and backups, but can't select any for recovery.
When they select one of the backups, it only shows "Failed to obtain the backup contents" in the Backup contents menu and thus are unable to proceed.
This worked fine for them quite recently and since then nothing has changed on the server side. It just suddenly stopped working for some reason.
We made sure they use the correct version of Acronis USB media (made with the same version that is on the server side) and also connecting with the right user (same user they always use, admin on the server, running the backup plans etc.).
What is interesting, is that the recovery works just fine when done via the console (running under the same user account). It's also possible to browse backup contents etc. there.
What might be causing this? Any ideas?
Didn't want to start so many new discussions, so attaching the second issue here:
2. Acronis console not loading all the archives/backups.
We had this reported a few times already since we upgraded to r16386 (from r14330) by frightened users telling us, that some of their backups got lost somehow and they really need them.
When I checked it, they were right - archive(s) they were looking for wasn't shown in the console and even search function couldn't find it (both in Backups -> Locations -> Location and also in Devices where Acronis shown "There are no backups of the selected devices in the known locations").
Eventually all it took was to refresh the Location (not sure if just once, or a few times) and then missing archive(s) appeared and also message stating that there are no backups for the selected device disappeared.
Problem is that it's hapenning quite frequently now and even on different storage nodes (not sure if this can be affected by the storage node server, or application/database server). It's most probably not a web browser caching problem as all users see the same. When the archive is not showing for one person, then no one sees it (unless someone manually refreshes the Location).
Is there some known root cause for such issues?
Thank you
Lukas

Hello Lukas!
What type of storage are you storing your backups at for deduplicate and non-deduplicated locations? Is it maybe using an usb attached storage?
Have you tried recreating the bootable media?
Have you tried refreshing the storage node contents (I understand you can browse them, just not recover) when using the bootable media?

Hello Péter,
thanks for your response. Backups are stored directly on the storage node server, which is virtual (vmware). No USB attached storage.
Yes, recreated the media a few times actually. Tried both Linux and WinPE based. Bootable media is the same version/build as the server (16386).
Yes, we refreshed the storage node contents a few times, but that unfortunately didn't help.
By browse I mean we could see the individual recovery points, but could not select any of them for recovery as they weren't showing any content. In Acronis console it's OK.

Hello Lukas!
Have you contacted support yet?
For the first issue a video is probably useful to show both how it appears in usb media and simultaneously how it's in the management console. For the second the standard gathering info procedure could be a start.

Hello Lukas,
thank you for posting on Acronis forums!
1) This issue needs to be investigated. Have you already opened a case with Acronis Support Team ?
2)
It's most probably not a web browser caching problem as all users see the same
Indeed, this is a web browser cashing problem since the Management Console is a web-based service. When you click Refresh the data is loaded directly from the Management Server. However, clicking Refresh too often will load the server with extra/unnecessary jobs.
