ATI 2017 won't let me modify the Backup Protection settings

Thread needs solution

I want to modify the Backup Protection settings on an existing backup to a network share, but the settings under Backup Protection are grayed out (yet look like there are already dots indicating a password yet the "Encryption method" box says "none".)

Anyone have any idea why & how to change it so I can turn on encryption? Is this a bug?

Michael, welcome to these user forums.

Backup protection can only be activated when your backup task is first created and before the task is executed for the first time.  After that the settings are disabled.

You can use the option to clone task settings from the task (V) drop-down menu against the name, then set protection in the cloned task as you want it to be.  The cloned task will have the name of the original task prefixed by (1)

Hi,

this doesnt work... i upgraded from 2017-to 2019-then 2021... even i clone task ... the Backup protection is greyed out ... :(

Hello John,

changing the backup protection options for an existing backup is not possible. Please create a new backup archive, set the protection options prior running the backup job.

@Ekaterina if you read more carefully ....

I said i copied current backup; and didnt run the copy and even i copied it and didnt run i am not able to set protection.

I can confirm that cloning the settings of an existing backup task in ATI 2021 #39216 does not allow for the 'Protection' settings to be changed from that set for the original task.

A message is shown to say that the Protection settings can only be changed on new tasks!

So is a cloned task a new task or not???  It seems that Acronis deem it to not be a new task!
