Is True Image 2021 compatible with Disk Director 12.5?
I installed Disk Director 12.5 today, the latest version I could find from the Acronis website. I installed it in trial mode in fact so you know I got the latest version. I actually located the EXE file on this Acronis page.
https://www.acronis.com/en-eu/support/updates/index.html#consumer
So I could get it without providing my email address to get the download link. Why is Acronis making it difficult for people to try out its software? I know they are not alone in doing that, but come on... As a matter of fact I already own one or two perpetual licenses for Disk Director 12. Why make this harder than it has to be? I know where to buy it if I have to, I don't need your marketing emails.
Anyway...
Regarding True Image, I got this message while I was installing Disk Director.
"Scheduler service is stopped and disabled
When the scheduler service is stopped and disabled, part of product functionality doesn't work. We recommend that you activate the service."
I have enabled it as you can see. But why was it stopped to begin with? I'm not installing a software from another party, this is an Acronis product.
What is the status of Disk Director as a product? Is this still supported and developed? I got build number 12.5.163. Is this compatible with latest True Image 2021 (build 39216)?
The copyright notice stops at 2018. Is this how old this version is? Is this the final version?

Thanks Steve!
From the link:
If you intend to use two different Acronis Personal products on the same machine, e.g. Acronis True Image and Acronis Disk Director, you should first install the product that was released earlier, and follow by installing a more recent product. These products use some common components, and thus a more recent product should be installed last, to provide the later version of the component.
It sounds just like installing Microsoft Office.
If one of the products is Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation or Acronis True Image 2018/2019/2020 you should disable Active Protection before proceeding with installation.
This give me one more reason to wish I could completely eliminate "Active Protection" along with Cyber Protect from my backup software.
Is version 12.5.163 the last we will see of Disk Director?

In all honesty, Disk Director is dated and hasn't been updated in some years, so suspect that Acronis are done with it!
MiniTool Partition Wizard Free does a better job and also supports EXT4 partitions which DD doesn't!

OK, so Disk Director is dead.
It was not very easy to locate on the Acronis website. But when I did find it, I saw that they offer people to try it (by registering your email so marketers can spam you) or buy it. When you buy it it's a perpetual license. You know it's interesting to see how they still offer this outdated software as a one time purchase on a perpetual license, whereas they cannot or won't do the same for True Image. It's another sign that Acronis is turning into a one product company, at least when home users or consumers are concerned. They will continue pushing for True Image, their flagship product and its subscription model.
I did not know that about Partition Wizard. That's good to know! That's one more way to work with non-Windows filesystems. I tried Partition Wizard earlier today and found it very useful and easy to use. I used the free version. They also have a Pro and a number of other editions, on both pay once perpetual licenses and as a subscription. As it should be, your choice as a consumer how you want to pay.
Anyway... I will write off Disk Director then. In fact, I have not used anything but Microsoft disk tools for at least the last five years or so. And if you have to use a third party tool, it can be a wise decision to get a mixed bag of tools from different vendors, it automatically saves you from falling into traps of one software component overwriting the other as described above.

Hello Samir,
the general recommendation for having different Acronis Personal products on the same machine, e.g. Acronis True Image and Acronis Disk Director is you should first install the product that was released earlier, and follow by installing a more recent product. These products use some common components, and thus a more recent product should be installed last, to provide the later version of the component. (see https://kb.acronis.com/content/61428 for more details)
However, the latest officially compatible and verified with Acronis Disk Director 12.5 version of Acronis True Image is Acronis True Image 2019.
I'd recommend using Acronis Disk Director 12.5 as a bootable media instead to avoid any conflicts.
