True image for western digital

Thread needs solution

I am trying to swap out an 128 GB SSD for a new  sn750 500 GB SSD however I get a red X on what appears to be the partition where the efi stuff should be therefore I can not clone. I tried chkdsk, sfc scannow and DISM however the error still appears when I try to clone. Any help rendered would be appreciated.

Henry, welcome to these public User Forums.

See KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which applies to all OEM versions of ATI supplied with hardware purchases.

Are both drives from WD if you are using the WD version of ATI ?

Have you make a full Disk backup of the original source 128GB SSD?  This is highly recommended as is your safety net in case of mistakes / errors etc, plus you can use the backup image to restore to the new SSD instead of using cloning.

To use restore with the WD ATI application, it needs to detect a WD drive, hence my first question above.

Personally I choose to use Backup & Restore when migrating to new drives as this is a safer option as the original, working drive is removed from the PC and set aside, so that only the new drive is physically installed in the PC and rescue media is used to boot the PC and restore a backup image from an external USB drive.

See topic: Steve migrate NVMe SSD where I documented the process that I used when upgrading my laptop NVMe SSD drive using Backup & Restore.

One drive is  Toshiba the other is WD. Yeah, I made a backup on the data drive. For this particular issue, I just repaired the startup process and the error went away. Thank you for the advice I shall do that
