True Image no USB Drive detected
Hi,
I have a Iomega eGo 1 TB external USB Harddrive and a Boot-CD with TI 11 Home (#8105). When I boot from the CD and afterwards try to restore a Backup on the USB harddrive TI can only find a CD-ROM instead of a USB-Harddrive. Therefore, I cannot access any data on this harddrive!!
What is the problem and how can I get it going with my Iomega USB Harddrive?

Hi Pat,
for me it also looks like a driver issue. I have access to my account and also downloaded the Build #8105 of "Acronis True Image 11 Home". No luck up to now with it. The Bootable-CD only shows a CD-ROM drive instead of my external USB disk.
But there is also something strange, which might have something to do with the Firmware of the disk. In Windows 7 the connected disk has two icons in Windows Explorer. One shows up as a CD-ROM containing an EXE-File to encrypt the disk (which I didn't) and the other one is the partition for the data to be stored.
Obviously, TI only reads and connects the first partition and ignores the second one with the data stored on it.
Is there a way to solve this issue? Is this issue with Iomega USB drives (eGo Harddrive) solved in later versions, like Acronis True Image 2011?? Is it possible to somehow test if it is solved before buying an upgrade of Acronis? I think there is a Demo-Version available, but I need to test it with the Bootable-CD.

So, if I click on the CD-Drive, I can see "Iomega Encryption Utility.exe"

What you are seeing is a virtual CD-ROM that contains software that comes with the harddrive. You don't need to use this, but if you encrypt the disk, it might be even harder for other software to see the disk, depending on what this encryption really does.
Assuming the disk is not encrypted: what does Windows disk management say about this disk? Is it a basic disk? (Right click my computer, manager > storage > disk management.
If it is basic, good.
How is the partition on this disk? NTFS? It should also be healthy, primary. Healthy is good :-) Nothing else?

I looked into Disk Management and yes, it has Type "Basic".
There is the "Virtual CD" with Filesystem "CDFS" (clear, as it is mounted as Virtual CD) and the actual Volume Partition for the Data which I formatted as "NTFS" with "Standard" Sector Size, wich I expected as 512 Bytes, but was allocated with 4096 Bytes. It is a Primary Partition, Healthy.
The disk is NOT encrypted!
I also have news:
I downloaded the Demo-Version of Acronis True Image 2011 Home and with this version it is possible to access my external USB Harddrive from the Boot-CD.

Good. There was nothing "wrong" with your disk then. Just outdated linux drivers in ATI...

... which means no way to get it going with my TI version then?

If you don't have access to the latest bootable media in your acronis account (like I have with ATI 2011, see picture attached), you are out of luck

I do NOT have access to this with my older version of ATI. My version is called "... Home 11", which does not have anything to do with "... 2011". So probably have to have an update to get it going with my Harddrive ;-(
Okay, thanks for your help!! Appreciate it!

Hello TrueImager and Pat,
Thank you for your messages and thank you for helping Pat.
TrueImager, I will definitely help you with this issue.
Acronis True Image 2011 Home is compatible with backups created with Acronis True Image 11 Home. Since you need to recover your backup, I will send you the trial bootable media for ATIH 2011 which is limited to recovery only. Since it is the latest version, I am confident it will detect your hardware. I will follow-up with a private message in a few minutes.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

TrueImager & mbathen,
Alternate Rescue CD's can be downloaded from the Acronis support site. Registration of your software is required and can be done now or you may have done it in the past. Click on the link in the upper right corner of this web page for access to your account.
You might find that the alternate Rescue CD could be beneficial and may be able to read your backup files better than the bootable media version created from your Windows installation. The alternate has newer drivers but you won't know unless you try.
Download the "Bootable media" option. Then, burn the download as an image onto a CD. More information is available by clicking on my signature below and looking at item 2-E, F & G.

Hi Manfred,
you have to register your version/license of Acronis. Then when you logon to your Account you can see your registered version and then download updates.
If you are talking about trying a new version, then you have to download a Demo-Version and try if your USB Stick is supported there...

Hello all,
Thank you for posting and your help.
Manfred, I got your private message and sent you a reply. Build 2112 that you mention is for Acronis Disk Director 11 Home that you also own. Right below the ADD11 tab you will be able to expand the ATIH2011 tab which will have the bootable media that Grover wrote about.
Please let me know if you need additional assistance.
Thank you.
