Automatic repair loop
After restoring a full backup(done from a working Windows) from last week to my system Drive( a SSD M2)
I end up in Automatic repair loop when booting
It seems that some files are not accessible with strange error Messages.
On the SSD it is : "The backing provider could not be recognised."
Already tried restoring the backup to a normal HD, there the message ( for the same files) is "The system cannot access the file."
System does not boot and is not repairable by standard means. If I do a complete recovery, setting back everything to clean windows the system works again. But having a backup, this obviously is not my preferred solution:(
Windows system is 8.1, Acronis True Image 2021, the machine a Asus Rog G751jy
Any suggestions?(Ticket with Acronis already set up)

Thanks for the answer but this is definitely not the problem.
The Problem is that recovery is producing that strangely corrupted files.
It might have to do with the Volume shadow copy mechanism. Because after a review, most of these files might have been in use during the backup.(audio drivers for example...)
At the moment I am trying to restore them.( from an earlier cloned drive of the same machine...)

Andreas, if you are making a Disks & Partitions backup then Microsoft VSS should be able to capture all locked files apart from some SQL Server related files at times.
If you made a Files & Folders backup of Windows OS program files, drivers etc, then this would not be able to capture those files due to OS locks held.

I did a full backup of the machine, This is definitively a disk and partitions backup.

Andreas, thanks for confirming you are working with a disk backup image. At this point I am struggling to understand why doing a restore of that backup should cause any files to be corrupted unless there are other underlying hardware issues at play? The latter seems unlikely if you are able to do a 'complete recovery' as per your initial post?
Are you doing a Disk level recovery here or are you trying to restore individual files & folders on top of your working complete recovery? The latter will not work if it involves any OS files & folders!

Hi Steve ,I do understand you are trying to be helpful and ask the low level stuff first, but I have a masters degree in computer science. I am building my own machines from scratch for thirty years now.
Please just believe, that I know what I am doing.(generally)
I have restored that backup by DISK recovery several times now to at least 3 different HDs. The result is always the same. The same files are corrupted and not accessible, The error message is the same: The backing provider cannot be recognised.
What ever that means :(

Andreas, sorry for needing to ask the basic questions but after my own 30+ years spent in technical support, I have learnt to never take anything for granted.
The further suggestions to make here depend on the options available to you and are those that I would be looking at myself if faced with this scenario.
If you have a working install of Win 8.1 available for this PC, i.e. a working drive you have removed that you know is able to boot fine after your complete recovery / clean install mentioned in the opening post, then are you able to make a new Disk backup of that working OS and restore it to a different drive? The purpose here is to establish that the process can / does work using the same PC hardware and thus indicate whether the issue may lay with the backup image you are trying to recover?
If the above test also fails or produces the same corrupt files on recovery to a different drive, then it would suggest an issue with some component of the hardware, i.e. memory, cables, power supply etc.
Another test would be to test performing the recovery of the key backup image using a different PC but ensuring that it uses the same BIOS boot mode as the intended PC, i.e. both using UEFI BIOS boot mode. Do you still see the same corrupted files etc?

Andreas, are you able to boot Windows in Safe Mode?
