Orphaned TIB files.

Thread solved

Please can anyone help get rid of these files.

Please see the screenshot.

I have disabled Protection, but the files are still locked and require permission from "the computer's administrator".

These TIBs do not appear in Acronis True Image, and I am unable to add them.

They are using up rather a lot of space...

Thanks and kind regards

Mark, welcome to these public User Forums.

First check point: do you see any backup tasks in the main ATI 2021 Backup panel with the same stem name as the files shown in your image?

If you do, then open the Clean up versions tool and try to remove the unwanted files using that method.

See KB 61844: Acronis True Image 2019, 2020 and 2021: How to delete old backups

If you have no matching backup task, then the next action to try is to use the 'Add existing backup' and select just one of those files and see if that will allow you to add a task to the Backup panel.  The task will be given the same name as the file you select but if it can be added, then again you can try using the Clean up versions tool to remove unwanted files.

If neither of the above approaches work, then other actions depend on where the files are stored and if you have other PC's available?

If the files are on an external drive and you can connect that drive to another PC which doesn't have Acronis installed (Acronis Active Protection in particular), then you could delete the files from the drive using Explorer.

If the drive cannot be moved to another PC or you only have the one PC, then you can try doing the following:

Right-click on the bottom taskbar, then select Task Manager.

In Task Manager, open the Services tab, then at the bottom, click on Open Services to open the main Services control panel window.

In the Services window, select Acronis Active Protection, right-click on this and select Properties, then in the new Properties window, change the Startup type: setting from Automatic to Disabled, then click on OK.

Note: you need to do the above with Acronis not open!

Next, do a Windows Restart and when you get back to the desktop, do not open ATI 2021 (which would trigger AAP to be started regardless of being disabled!).

Open Explorer to the location of the unwanted .tib files and try to delete them!

Good day Steve,

Thanks for your swift response.

There are no backup tasks in the main ATI 2021 Backup panel with the same stem name as the orphaned files.

I have read KB 61844.

I have tried to ‘Add existing backup’ with each and every file without success.

The files are on a SMB share on a NAS running TrueNAS-12.0-U5.1.

I logged into the share with a PC that has never even sniffed Acronis, and with both an iPhone and an iPad on iOS15, and none of them would delete the files.

I then tried your advice to kill Acronis Active Protection Service, then after reboot checked that Acronis Active Protection Service was indeed stopped. Tried again to delete the files without success.

Kind regards

Mark B.

Mark, given that the problem files are on your NAS and cannot be deleted via another PC where Acronis hasn't been installed, then the only other suggestion would be to use the web interface provided by the NAS and see if you have a file manager on the NAS that you can use to remove the files when signed in as Administrator.

I have no experience of TrueNAS so can't give more precise guidance - my own NAS is a Synology NAS which does allow the above type of operations.

Mark,

For FreeNAS/TrueNAS you must have inherit and recursive permissions set to full control of the logged in user. The link below may help.

https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/smb-shares-unable-to-delete-f…

OK, cracked it. I logged into the Truenas Shell. Navigated to the mount point, then removed the Acronis Back Up Directory. That deleted the files and freed up the space in the ZPool.

Thanks again for the help.

Mark B.

Mark,

Glad to hear of your success.
