Got a new "Others" backup which is part of chain

Thread needs solution

I have a full disk backup called Dell-Full which backs up from my test machine to my other PC. I only save a couple so the three files present are Dell-Full.tibx (12KB), Dell-Full-0006.tibx and Dell-Full-0007.tibx. That looks correct.

But when I started ACPHO today, I see Dell-Full listed under "This computer" backups, but Dell-Full-0006 is listed under "Others", yet it is part of the known local backup task. I have not seen this before.

Bruno,

Sounds like the metadata for that file has issues.  I would suggest running a validation on that file in hopes to clear that up.

I started a new backup. It ran fine and as a result of automatic cleanup, the -0006 version was correctly removed.

I closed the UI. But, when I tried to restart it, it would not open. I had to resort to a reboot.

On reboot and opening the UI, the -0006 version was still listed. I tried a validation on that one. After telling me twice that it could not find the file it then removed it from the list.

Validation of the main task works (at least latest version).

I'm sure the metadata was fine.

Bruno,

Glad you got it sorted.  The tracking metadata was what I was referring to and your description of events convinces me even more.

And where is the tracking metadata? Why would it be incorrect? I'd really like to see it.

The metadata is most likely to be stored in the small 12kb .tibx file when present, otherwise within the initial full .tibx file, and possible some held in the internal database (but this is purely my own supposition!).

Steve, it was meant more as a rhetorical question. We often assume problems in the metadata, but we really know very little about it.

Understand, it would be good to have some method of 'seeing' the metadata to understand just what data is being captured and used.

Yeah, it would be nice to be able to view this data.  Even nicer if it were not cryptic.  Metadata is used in a number of ways in the application and I believe Steve's supposition is correct on tracking data.  I also believe that the MFT is used to locate corruption in the file system but that is my own supposition.
