ATI 2019 not performing differential backup properly
Hello,
I recently began using a copy of True Image 2019 to back up both my OS drive and an external HDD that stores many photos, videos and other documents. I had True Image store the backup files on another external HDD.
While the OS backup seems to be working, the backup of the external media HDD is not working properly. I set True Image to differential mode and to perform a full backup after every 4 differentials. The first full backup said it completed successfully, but I received a "No information about the file content" message and there were no files whatsoever in the Recovery tab of the backup.
I then performed a second backup, which according to my settings should have been a differential backup, but instead, the resulting backup file (when viewed in Windows Explorer) ended up being larger than the first full backup file. (And still no files listed in the Recovery tab.)
Am I correct in my assumption that the second differential backup file size should have been much smaller than the original full backup?
Does anybody have an idea as to why the backup of the external HDD shows no files in the Recovery tab, and how I can verify that the backup files actually contain the data that was supposed to be backed up?
Thank you, and let me know if any further information is needed.
Nicolo

This may also be due to drive letter assignment changes by Windows itself if the external destination disk is not connected to the device being backed up on a continuous basis.

Thank you for your replies.
Both of your comments seem like they may play into my situation... the external backup drive is formatted in exFAT format instead of NTFS. Also, the drive is not continuously connected to the computer.
Is it recommended to use NTFS format for drives with True Image?
Enchantech, with regards to the drive letter changes, do the issues you are referring to have to do with why the differential backup file was larger in size than the original full backup?
Thanks,
