Backed up data size - strange 'Activity' entry values

Thread needs solution

Full backup of C Drive on a schedule to USB3.0 attached disk.  Ran successfully according to Activity Log (the  'yesterday at 19:25' entry), however:-

  • 'Activity' shows the data backed up as 10.6GB when a full backup would be ~115GB.
  • When repeated manually at 20:42 'Activity' shows 3.6GB backed up.
  • 'Data to Recover' shows ~147GB in both cases
  • 'Cleanup Versions' screen shows 115GB for each backup

Both backups show as successful and validated ,and show sensible size in Windows Explorer .  Might think it was only the activity screen that was in error, but received the 'backup successful' email around 5 minutes after backup started which despite the 'successful' tag suggested it had failed

Thoughts anyone?

'Strange' is the only word I can offer here!

It looks almost as if the Activity tab believes the backup is for an Incremental task not Full only!

Have you tried doing a validation for this backup task?

Hi Steve, both the 10.6GB and 3.6GB (?) backups were validated immediately after they ran, and the validation shows as successful. The Activity tab shows the backup durations as 5 and 4 mins respectively and yet since the backup starts at 19:00 the completion times indicate otherwise i.e. 19:25 and 20:42!  Ran independent validation today and validated successfully.  Looking as though deleting the backup task and starting over may be the way to go?

Definitely something wrong / strange going on with the Activity page information, so may be best to make a new backup task as a first check point.

OK I created new tasks and the Activity tab entries are all making sense so far.
