What happens if you cancel a subscription?

Thread needs solution

I love acronis I use it all the time I have 2017.  I am happy to upgrade to the latest version.   I see now  acronis has moved to a subscription only model no matter how much I love a software product I am not going to pay every year for it I have one pc and keep it for many years.  What would happen if I just cancel my subscription?  would acronis  still back up my pc that's all I want don't care about online storage or any other feature I just want a good backup software.

Jeremy, unless you have a perpetual licensed version of ATI installed, then cancelling the subscription would take away your ability to continue making backups!

See KB 63207: Acronis True Image 2020 licensing - where it details the way subscription works if you let it expire / don't renew!

Standard license is unlimited in time. Annual subscription means your license is limited for 1 year. You can renew your subscription and continue using the product.

After your Acronis True Image subscription expires, all product functionality will be blocked until further subscription renewal, however, the backed up data is still accessible:

  • For 5 days after subscription expires you can continue making backups, including backups to Acronis Cloud storage.
  • During 30 days after subscription expires you can restore data from Cloud Storage. Thirty days after subscription expiration the data in Acronis Cloud storage is destroyed.
  • Local backups remain available for restore.

I understand from a business decision on why acronis did this but come on. I know  some people would like  to have the latest version ever year. I just don't understand why acronis can't give people the choice of a stand alone now I have to  find another alternative. I noticed youtuber carey holzman one of your biggest fans is now no longer recommending your product.

Jeremy, you are preaching to the converted in these forums - we are all users the same as you and don't work for Acronis or have any influence over their product / business direction.

Dear jeremy 19,

thank you for taking the time to share your concerns about the licensing changes made by Acronis, I've registered your comments in our internal system for the product management to review. Here you can read more about the reasons behind this change https://kb.acronis.com/content/68375 This is basically a business decision affecting all Acronis product lines, not only Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office/Acronis True Image.
