Backup once only

Thread needs solution

I have been a user of Acronis True image for many years (started with version 6) but this version Acronis True image home 2011, is difficult.
I have Drive C with RAID 1
HDD partitioned to D:\; E:\; & F:\
HDD partitioned to G:\; & H:\
HDD I:\ this drive is where I back up
Thus there are 5 HDD in the box, all SATA
I can back up and read the images without problem, the issue is that if I back up any drive (partition or drive) Acronis will not function again without a reboot of the system.
When I say that Acronis will not function, the main screen appears but the backup goes into calculation mode and just sits there, the computer is fully functional.
I read a kb article (which I cannot now find, but think it is 1515) that suggested to download and install SnapAPI I have done this but no difference.

Is your RAID 1 hardware or software?

IF it is software, your disks are dynamic and ATI doesn't support those without the plus pack.

The RAID are Hardware (Adaptec)
I have read the post
18411: Acronis TIH 2011 queues backups but they wont start
The detail about running the services.msc showed me that
Acronis Scheduler2 Service was running and was automatic
I stopped the service and started it again and TIH sprang into life.
Whoever posted that reply stated to download a schedule manager (Acronis shedmgr.exe) how is that achieved?
And what is an elevated prompt? Like a DOS (cmd) prompt?
I use XP-SP3
I have just gone back to that post and it was by yourself Pat L, the exact line is
donwload the schedule manager (Acronis Shedmgr.exe), install, run it from an elevated prompt. Type "get list". Review the list
I do not understand the remainder of your reply after running an elevated prompt
The other thing that worries me is the fact the Acronis Scheduler2 has the numeral 2 is that significant

Please read the reply above first
I have since discovered that by stopping the Acronis scheduler2 and starting it again works every time, it would appear to me that the problem is in that module, I need help in how to resolve the issue.

The other thing that worries me is the fact the Acronis Scheduler2 has the numeral 2 is that significant

It's normal, it is scheduler2.

And what is an elevated prompt?

Only for vista and later - it's a cmd shell run 'as administrator' - that will prompt for UAC and grant administrator privileges.

Edward,

Make sure that these services are on automatic on your system

1. COM+ Event System.
2. COM+ System Application.
3. Distributed Link Tracking Client.
4. Distributed Transaction Coordinator.
5. Windows Installer.

Restart your system if you made some changes

Relaunch the ATI installer, choose Repair

Reboot. See if the problem subsists

If it does, uninstall ATI, run the cleanup tool from an evelated command prompt.

Reboot

Install ATI and recreate your backup tasks. See if the problme subsists

1. COM+ Event System. Was on Automatic
2. COM+ System Application. Was on Manual changed to Automatic
3. Distributed Link Tracking Client. Was on Automatic
4. Distributed Transaction Coordinator. Was on Manual changed to Automatic
5. Windows Installer. Was on Manual changed to Automatic
Rebooted
repaired ATI
rebooted
checked the above 1. Com+ Event System had changed to Manual changed back to Automatic
rebooted
The problem still exists
If I go to services.msc stop Acronis Scheduler2 immediately start again all works
When I uninstall TIH do I use the installer or Add/Remove
What is the link to the cleanup tool

Edward,
Regarding post #2

This link might help to explain more about the Task Scheduler

Do a file search for "SCHEDUL2.EXE"
Check its properties and see if you have the version 461 which is the most current and available from the above link. This file is stored

XP Pro:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2\schedul2.exe

Win7-64:
C:\Program Files(X86)\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2\schedul2.exe

You can also look at the Scheduler 2 services and within its properties. Check its dependencies and it should list RPC Remote procedure call services (approximate wording)

Thank you again
Yes I do have version 461 of SCHEDUL2.EXE
I carried out the Get list: task 1-#-#; and task delete routine but am unable to delete one task, I have played around but there is always one I cannot delete, just had a brainwave, went to services.msc stopped the Acronis Scheduler2 service then started it again then went back to schedmgr and went through the get list exercise again. This time all were deleted
See the two attachments.
I ran a backup which worked, I then tried another but back to where I started. It appears as though the problem is with the scheduler, but where? I need help

That's the link for the clean up tool
(optional: export your backup settings from the tools page of 2011)
Uninstall 2011
Launch the clean up tool: search for "command prompt:, right click on the link, choose "run as administrator"
Navigate to the folder where you have download the tool
Launch it
Reboot
Install 2011
(optional continued: import back your backup settings)

Edward,
Is your scheduler services stopping after each successful backup?

If you are not using the NonStop backup option, you could also disable the acronis NonStop Scheduler service.

I have just gone through a complete clean up and reinstall, the situation is exactly as before.
The non stop backup is running since the reinstall
I will take some screen captures to show what is happening.
Go to attachment "screen after successful backup.gif"
I then go to Disk and Partition backup
I then go to Disk and Partition backup.gif
I select (say) Minor App (E:)
see Select Minor apps E.gif
then the "Back up now" button
the display is
Main window new backup.gif
This is where it will stay, I can click the Back Up now button but nothing happens.
Now if I exit, go to services.msc, stop the process and immediately restart then go to main screen the backup will start
Is it input/user error? If so where?

Well... I don't think there is user error here. I have no idea why a back up would not start. Did you submit a support ticket?

No I have not submitted a support ticket, do you advise that action?
I have just discovered that Outlook 2003 would not start until I stopped and started the Acronis Scheduler2 service, this has started since the reinstall.
Is it possible the RAID controller is at fault? I do have the Plus Pack installed

Yes. You should. Acronis has seen somebody with a Scheduler service here too.
19468: Acronis Scheduler2 Service Disabling Automatically

Edward,
Just to make sure we have no misunderstanding.

If you want a repeat of your backup, click on the original task and click on "backup now".
The only time you need to select the option as your 2nd image shows (disk and partiton backup) is when you want to create a new task to a new folder with a new task name and a new backup name. If you are repeating a prior backup, simply click as you see below.

Thanks Grover, exactly what I am doing.
I have just submitted it as an issue. And made reference to this forum.
Will keep posting if there is a satisfactory outcome.

I now have no doubt the problem is in the Scheduler.
I have created a batch file

@echo off
net stop "Acronis Scheduler2 Service"
net start "Acronis Scheduler2 Service"
pause
exit

I can use it at the end of a backup and without even closing the main window, run the batch file and do another backup
All I need is for that to be automated.

Is there any way of determining whether your request for support was received?
I submitted a request yesterday and have not received an acknowledgement that it was received.

They typically send you an email back to acknowledge your request and give you your ticket number.

YOu can also try to send a private message to one of the Acronis employees on this forum, in parallel.
