How do I STOP replicating a backup?

Thread needs solution

I have the Mac version of Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office. I have a backup task (inherited from ATI 2021) for an external hard drive which includes replication to the Cloud. I started this backup recently, and it completed and then went on to do the replication (which I know is normal). But in fact I no longer want it to replicate the backup. So I paused replication. However, there now seems to be nothing I can do (with that or with any of my backup tasks) until replication of that backup completes—which will apparently take 2 or 3 days. I've tried to delete the replica from the Cloud, but it fails to lock the file, probably because the task is paused.

Surely there must be some way I can (1) just stop replicating (i.e., so the process is no longer paused but is actually terminated); and (2), remove replication from that task (without deleting the original backup)?

Any suggestions on how to deal with this situation will be gratefully received!

I use a Windows PC, not a MAC, and it is possible that there may be differences.

You could try deleting the backup backup - but you probably want the local backup for possible future recovery. You could try copying the local backup files to another location (you may need to temporarily disable Active Protection - you should be prompted to do so if it necessary). The delete the backup task (selecting delete task and backup files, rather than delete the task). Hopefully this allow other backup tasks to work. I suspect this will delete all information about the backup from the database maintained by ATI/ACPHO. You could then add the copied version back into ATI; it will need need to be reconfigured.

Before doing this, I would wait to see what other potential solutions are proffered. In the Windows version there is a way of zapping backup tasks from the internal database, but I have never used it. I do not know if the MAC version is the same in this respect. You may need to post in the MAC forum for further guidance - Acronis True Image for Mac Forum.

Thanks for those suggestions, Ian. My immediate problem, though, is that it seems I can't do anything with any of my tasks because the current operation (replication of the one backup) is paused. As I said, I tried deleting the Cloud replica, but it couldn’t lock the file. I haven't tried deleting both the backup and the replica (which I'm not keen to do)—but I'm guessing that also wouldn't work because of the incomplete replication process. I really need some way to completely stop the replication! Are you saying that copying the local backup file elsewhere would do that?

(By the way, I already have Active Protection permanently stopped.)

Thanks for the link to the Mac forum. As you say, I'll see if there are other responses here and then maybe try them. I appreciate your input.

Hi Steve, I suspected that you may not be able to do anything with that task or any other. I have a dim recollection that his happened with the Windows version, and that the pause button now allows you to do things with other backups; not sure what happens with the paused backup itself. Cannot recall if I ever needed to pause a replica.

With the Windows version I would have tried uninstalling ACPHO, running the the cleanup tool, then reinstalling ACPHO. However, on installation the replica is likely to reappear; that is what happens with ordinary cloud backups.

You may need to create a support ticket (but that may not lead to a solution).

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

I have ths problem  - my broadband is not fast enough to successfully replicate my backup and now every time I start my laptop,  ACP starts trying to replicate the backup which serious impacts my broadband speed so I have to Pause it.

Come on Acronis - please provide an option to completely switch off replication on a backup.

PS:  I have no recollection of switching replication on.  I only discovered it was happening when my broadband provider, investigating why I was getting such bad performance, told me that something was uploading large amounts of data.  Eventually tracked it down to ACP.
