Update Notification Question

Thread needs solution

I received an email notification purporting to be from Acronis saying we must update True image version 2020 to retain and continue to use certain functionality, especially concerning the Cloud Service.   Is this a valid email from Acronis or not?

Thank you !    JR

Part of this message states:

...  releasing a free mandatory software update for Acronis True Image (versions 2017–2021).

We highly recommend that you install this update before February 2022. Doing so will not only enhance your security, but is also necessary for all product features that use the Acronis Cloud to continue working properly. If you choose not to update your software, certain functionalities will be unavailable beginning in February.

Hello James, this notification is valid. More information is published in Acronis Knowledge Base article:

https://kb.acronis.com/content/69830.

Versions 2017-2021 have new builds released containing necessary security updates.

Same notification message is now published at Acronis support page: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/

There is no mention in KB 69830 of Acronis addressing the blatant security risk of using an insecure / obsolete version of SSL for all Email Notifications which has been a security risk for many years!

Dear Anna P --  THANK YOU for the prompt and direct reply.

Question No 2.  --  What if I do not use the Cloud service?  If not, can I continue to use True Image on a USB flash drive, and make backup images outside the Windows OS environment, without updating the flash drive ?

JR

James, your USB media should continue to work normally provided you are not needing to access any backup data in the Acronis Cloud though I would still recommend updating your rescue media after any new build is installed so that you take advantage of any other hidden fixes that Acronis may have included but not mentioned in the release notes!

Thanks Steve - Roger all points - that comports with my understanding and expectations.   JR
