How to continue with existing backups on NAS after changing the name of the NAS?
Acronis True Image 2021. I have made backups on a D-link DNS-320 NAS in my home network for a long time. Today I changed the name of the NAS in the NAS management interface but not the ip-address. Then ATI could not get access any more even after trying to enter the login/password again. I see that the old backup destination started with the old name of the NAS, not the IP-address. I cloned the settings of the backup and changed the destination entering the ip-address manually, path then to the old backups. When I start a backup with this cloned config, my impression is that it tries to make a new full backup instead of continuing the backup sequence existing.
How can I continue to use the old backups under a new backup configuration pointing to the same place after changing the name to ip-address? Right clicking on the new cloned backup does not show anything reminding of importing data.
Or is it possible to change the destination from name to ip-address in the old backup while keeping it working?

You did find the answer. It should work without issue now.

Unfortunately it did not work as I hoped as I noticed in the morning. The backup process had started a new full backup instead of making a next differential. How can I continue with the existing chain of backups after changing from NAS-name to ip-address path?

Franz, I suspect that Acronis may have deemed that changing the destination from NAS name to IP Address warrants starting a new full backup.
What you could try doing here would be to use the Delete option for the task to remove the existing task settings (leaving the files untouched), then using the option to 'Add existing backup' to select the most recent differential backup file from the renamed NAS. This would still require that you 'Reconfigure' all the other settings for the added back task, and may still result in the same result of a new full backup.
Also, if trying the above, you should remove the previous new full backup using the Clean up versions tool for the original task before removing it.
The alternative is to continue a new differential chain with the new full backup that was created after the destination change to using the IP address.

Hi Steve, thanks for the helpful answer.
I had stopped the new full backup, since it was still going on in the morning.
Now I did as You suggested - Add a New Backup - and it started a differential backup and not a new full backup. I just tested to see in the explorer from the name of the file what it was doing. In the evening I will start the backup again.
