Backup Strategy with NAS

Thread needs solution

I have 2 Mac laptops and 2 Window laptops that I backup twice a day to the Acronis Cloud. I am installing a Synology 220 NAS to provide local backup. I would appreciate thoughts on how best to deploy the NAS. My thoughts are:

Do local backups of the 2 Window laptops to the NAS twice a day but at a different time than the cloud backups. I have created universal restore thumb drives for them.

Do Time Machine backups of the 2 Mac laptops to the NAS. Do monthly clone backups to the NAS and create restore thumb drives. Would there be any benefit in having the Time Machine and/or Clone files stored in the Acronis Cloud? If so, how should they be done?

Thank you.

Mike,

A few comments.  First, a Universal Restore medium is only needed if you will be restoring an OS disk image taken from one machine to another machine with differing hardware.  Your use case doesn't sound like that is the situation here.

Second. are you performing full disk backups followed by incremental or differential backups or are you strictly backing up files and folders?

In any case I suggest that you create separate folders for all the different backup tasks that you use so as to help in managing your backup files and more importantly to avoid corruption of the applications database where backup task information is stored.

Third, it is wise to keep more than one copy of backups if possible.  How you achieve that is a matter of personal preference.
