"Failed to check last versions of the backup" and "Cannot open folder"

Thread needs solution

Acronis 2021 Build 30480. Backups are getting "Successfully backed up" but if I click the "Recovery" tab for any defined backup I get "Failed to check last versions of the backup" and if I try to open backup Options I get "Cannot open folder". I can see the TIB files on the external disk and I can open the password-protected TIB files from Windows Explorer and see file contents. I tried rebooting, tried to Pause Protection.

David, welcome to these public User Forums.

Quick initial questions:

Are you creating .tib or .tibx files for your backups here?

Have you been moving or deleting any .tibx files or swapping external drives etc?

Same issue here. Just updated 2020 to 2021. Any attempt to Validate or enter Recovery leads to the "Failed to check last versions of the backup" error. 4 drives, 1 incremental and 3 full backups. 2x tib and 2 x tibx. Same location and details as with 2020 - nothing changed except updating the software version. Backups on 2 USB external drives (not NAS). The ...ProgramData...Database folder is empty. Any ideas??? I was able to cleanup versions on all the backups though one was newly created today. I can access the files via windows explorer. Now I regret updating.

Peter

Peter,

Please try re-selecting the backup location again in the GUI.  Click on the destination then if possible, navigate to the location where the backup files are located and select the folder that contains the backup.  Then click the OK button.  If the task now shows a red X in the GUI clicking the backup now button to run the task should get things back to normal.

I've got the same problem - with a twist. 6 x PC's all running Win 10Pro & Acronis 2021 V35860 creating tibx

2 x PC's have AMD processors = Acronis works fine.

4 x PC's have Intel processors = On trying to access Options/Recovery or change file location it fails-see attached file.Try to create a new backup works until I try to select output-browse-please wait (forever).

Why does Acronis need 13 processes running??

I've had this problem for 2months and the only solution is to uninstall/re-install but this is not right and not what I paid for.Needless to say Acronis does not recognise its own error code hence I'm here for help.

Thank you.

Ellis, have you tried using the 'Add existing backup' option and selecting the most recent of your backup files for the task(s) where you are seeing this issue?  If not, then please do so.  The option can be found by clicking on the caret 'v' to the right of the '+ Add backup' option.

I've just tried but all I got-see attached file-which didn't give me an option to add file.

Ellis, where is your backup file located?  You need to navigate through the options on the panel shown to where the file is found, then select it.

All my backups are on HDD/SSD's in the standard manner - i.e. easily accessible by Windows - Not on FTP or my NAS system.I can not see how to tell Acronis to add a file from the options available.

Ellis, are your HDD/SSD's connected internally or externally to your PC, i.e. are they SATA drives or USB?

Was ATI 2021 installed using an Administrator account, and is it being run from one too?

Have you tried expanding the Desktop option shown in your image by clicking on '+' ?

I see as below:

I do appreciated the time you are taking to help.

All drives internal SATA connected.

Can not remember if installed with ADMIN but I've reinstalled 3 m/c's using the ADMIN option as I thought "Why not".

Clicking the '+' on Desktop has no effect.Even double clicked it.Even copied file location -still nothing.

Ellis, time to go back to basics methinks here!  Can you test doing a Windows Restart and see if this makes any difference?

All my PC's are Intel based by preference and I have never seen the issue being described here nor seen other users reporting this either?

I am assuming that your PC's are standard Windows 10 Pro installations, and that the drives involved here are not locked / encrypted by BitLocker when you are asking ATI to show them? Can you see them in Explorer correctly?

Just for background - I've worked in IT for 42yrs Operating/Programming/Systems Design and have built my own PC's for 30yrs so I'm used to solving their little hiccups.

All m/c's were rebooted - one completely shutdown. All disks visible with no special features and ATI works fine until,on the last day of month,I try to add a new archive.

3 of the Intel PC's just do Distributed Computing and have no extra software installed and the same applies to the AMD ones but they run ATI with no probs.

I am also an Intel fan but last year thought I'd give AMD a go especially as they were kicking Intel's butt.

Now reinstalling ATI on the last PC so I'll let you get back to having a life or helping someone else who's sinking.

Thank you again - it's people like you that keep the rest of usgoing.

Ellis, I am curious about your statement above. What exactly do you mean by the final part above, i.e. on the last day of the month, adding a new archive?

If your backup task works for all other days (or executions) during each month, then it is very strange that it shows a mystery problem on the last day of the month?

Ellis,

I have to ask, are your backups being made from one PC to disk(s) on another PC?  If yes, how are you making your connection from PC-A to PC-B?

I recently started having the same problem as Davidhh and it started after the recent update to my TIH 2021.  The tibx backups are on the backup drive as well as the small one from the first version after cleanup from some time back as that is not to be deleted and I can mount them or use the USB created with the MVP ATIE Media Builder to restore if need be,  The only way I found to fix the issue was to do a repair install and then it worked fine until the next reboot and the same error message would appear when trying to click on restore in the app.  The backups were generally created efficient, fast, and without issue.

After 12 years of using this product I have now trashed it in favor of Aomei Backupper and it works flawlessly and is a pure BACKUP AND RESTORE app that TIH once was and generally it worked fine (?) in those years, but these recent additions of all the bloatware and sometimes no way to really turn them off permanently has made me decide to finally get rid of the headaches.  Plus, it only needs to load one service instead of six or eight services.  TIH saved my backside several times in those years, but it has turned into something that it should never have been as it was an excellent backup and restore app and should have remained such.  And, with a package deal, I paid Aomei only $50 for one key and got the second key free.

It also has a recovery option besides creating a USB boot drive as it creates a folder in the system drive that has a Win PE boot with the app included and is added to your boot menu so that if the boot drive fails, you can select this option, it opens Backupper and you can restore directly.

With all the bloatware installed (no option to not install) the app uses about 1.4 gig of drive space, and Aomei uses less than 200 MB.  It has all of the extra utility options in TIH (clone, etc) but it does not have the bloatware of cyber protection and virus protection.  I don't need it as I have better utilities to handle those things.

Too bad Acronis, but you have finally done enough to lose someone who was a long time and faithful user and purchaser of your app and its updates.  In those 12 years I have purchased 8 versions of it and put up with issues that were sometimes never solved, but now I have a lifetime license with Aomei with free updates just as I have had for several years with their excellent Partition Assistant - the best partition app available in my opinion.

If Acronis ever decides to get back to what they once did so well and get rid of the crap, I may return, but not now!
