Clone a partition, but not the entire drive

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2009 on a USB boot drive (Bart PE).
I have a new 320GB hardrive with two partitions on it; one for an operating system (D:), and one for data (W:).
I would like to clone a single partition 60 GB drive (C:) with an operating system and programs onto the first partition of the 320 GB drive, and leave the second parttion data portion of the drive intact.
e.g.
Drive 1; 60GB, Single partition, operating system and programs (Source drive) (C:)
Drive 2; 320GB, two partitions as follows:
Partition 1 - 80 GB (reserved for operating system (Target) (D:),
Partition 2 - 240 GB that contains data I want to preserve (keep data, no changes)(W:).
I can not find a way to clone the operating system from Drive 1 onto the partition 1 of the new drive 2.

Can anyone tell me how this may be accomplished?

Hello John!

Thank you for your question!

I regret to inform you that there is on way to clone a separate partition from one drive to another: Acronis True Image Home 2009 can clone hard drives only.

As a workaround I would suggest you to backup the source partition and restore it onto the target drive. You can find more details about this procedure in the chapters 5 and  6.3 p. 29, 55  of the User's Guide.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you.

Same question / issue, except that i am using Arconis Home 2011. This is a very handy feature in Ghost.

same question/issue except i am using Acronis Home 2011. I am a former Ghost user and this has been a standard feature for many years. It avoids unneeded disk i/o and saves a lot of time.

Chris,

Using TrueImage Home (any version), the clone feature is at disk level. When you clone a source disk, the target disk will assume the same feature of the source disk. Any data on the target disk will be deleted. It is NOT possible to "clone" a specific partition.

That said. Acronis does provide you the tools to do what want but it is not called cloning--it called restoring a a backup image. Use the backup feature to take a backup of the specific partition. Then use the Restore feature to restore the backup image onto the target partition. If the target partition does not exist, you will have to create it before TrueImage will restore into it. If the target partition does not exist, the restore will restore into the data partition you are trying to save--which is not what you want.

In post #1 above by support individual Yana, this same information was provided.

Can I back up a partition then restore it to a different partition containing data (on the same drive)? I wish to merge the data of the two partitions into one.

Any ideas on how to do this are welcome. Have ATIH 2011 and the Plus pack, on Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit).

You can do a file backup of the partition and restore within the other partition. This will not work if you are moving applications and or the OS.

What is the content of the partition you want to backup/restore?
