Cannot restore image using software program but rescue disk works

Thread solved

I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop running windows 10 and Acronis True Image 2020 (build 38600) installed.  I have a full image backup stored  on an eternal Western Digital  portable hard drive (My passport).  I opened the True Image program from my desktop and clicked 'recovery' and filled in all the necessary information.  It started to recover, and after 2-3 seconds, flashed that it was completed.  But obviously nothing changed.  I tried this several times and always the same result.  Then I booted the laptop using the Acronis Rescue USB and recovered the image from the external hard drive.  So I did manage to recover the image but I am now worried that there is some problem or glitch with the True Image program that may cause problems or failures in the future.  Any and all suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Joe, it has never been recommended to do any disk image recovery from within Windows using the Acronis GUI application.  The reason being that such a recovery will always require the PC to be restarted and this will be into a temporary, limited Linux kernel based rescue environment which may not have support for the actual hardware devices present.

Using the Acronis rescue media, in particular, that media created using Windows PE via the 'Simple' method takes the required device support from the Windows Recovery Environment and is the recommended method to use.
