True Image 2011- Unable to Activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager
Hi, all. I've just installed True Image 2011 home. Latest build. WinXP home sp2- italian ( all patches are up to date )
I cannot activate the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. When I try to activate it, after choosing Activate, the program simply says: Unable to Activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager.
I haven't activated the secure zone yet.
Attached the Acronis info and the windows system info
Thanks
Ferro

The problem happens in windows and also using the TI rescue CD. When I try using the TI rescue CD the error message is slightly different... , the application says something like that: ..... some files needed are missing, try from the bootable media or from windows

I would start by reinstalling TrueImage. Reopen the Acronis 2011 download file and start the install again. A repair option will be displayed. Select the repair option and it will install the program over top of the existing program. It also might be a good idea to create a new Rescue CD once you 2nd install is done.
Then retry the activating from both Windows and/or the new CD.

I've just perfomed reinstall two times. It might be the partition structure? Can you tell me if there is some technical documentazion about the Startup recovery manager and how it works? ( the on line help is too much strict in description)
160 GB disk: 1 hidden FAT32 partition ( PQSERVICE restore for the notebook); 1 NTFS primary partition with Xp home; 1 NTFS logical partition used for data ; 1 NTFS logical partition with xp professional

I will ask Support to look at this thread. The problem could relate to too many partitions.

To get the Acronis Start up recovery manager to work you have to first create an Acronis secure zone. Only then can the ASRM be activated.
NB. Make sure you have a working Acronis recovery CD or flash drive because in some fail modes the ASRM will not get you into the recovery environment.

In fact, you do not need to have the Acronis Secure Zone to turn on ASRM...

You may well be correct. There have been so many changes made in Version2011 that this fact slipped past me. Have you actually tested this yourself?
The OP seems to be going to create an active secure zone so it will be interesting to see if the ASRM can then be activated.

Hello all,
Thank you for posting and your help.
Ferro, I will do my best to help you.
Currently we have 2 issues with Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. One occurs in Windows after switching from trial to full version and the other with the bootable CD. If none of these articles help please contact our Support team with these reports so that we can help you with troubleshooting this problem.
Please let me know if you need additional help.
Thank you.

Thanks to all.
I've just watched teh two kb solutions. I use a fresh install ( no upgrade from a trial). I've tried to activate the ASRM from windows becaus I' cannot activate it from the bootable media ( same problem described in http://kb.acronis.com/content/14911 ). So I've opened the Case 01087567 on the support section. I've attached both the acronis system report and windows sysinfo to the support request.

The question is: is it a program issue?
the support team is requesting to buy a PPI in order to solve the problem. I'm glad to pay if the problem is caused by my configuration, but after some tests I've noticed the same problem also in a single partion disk.......

Hello Ferro,
Thank you very much for replying.
It is difficult to say at the moment what causes this issue. However, please rest assured that if is a program issue we will refund the PPI.
If you have additional questions, please let me know.
Thank you.

I too am having the same issue - cannot start startup recovery manager.
using AI 2011 on win7 home prem x64
created the secure zone backed up system and cannot activate the SRM
no error number, just message as noted.
when trying to activate SRM from bootable USB i created get message that the volume (? the ASZ) is not visible to BIOS
very frustrating as TI 2010 on another PC running XP did all these things perfectly!!

How to enable startup recovery manager in acronis secure zone 2011 or 2012 or 2013 ?

Reza,
The ASRM can be activated from the tools section of 2011, 2012 or 2013, or from the recovery CD. Note that activating ASRM makes some changes to the MBR which can be blocked in various situations (security software, BIOS security settings, etc.).
Although ASRM is compelling because it is convenient, it is dangerous because it uses data that is stored on the disk that boots. If that disk dies, ASRM will not work and you will have to use the recovery CD. Same comment applies to defining a secure zone on the same disk that contains the partitions to be backed up. If the disk dies, your backups are lost.
